It's a Comma Butterfly and yes that is a Canada Goose.

That's quite an impressive collection of waterfowl. What's that leggy white dude standing on the bank?

I believe he's a Great Egret. Of course, the swans dwarf everything.

This is my friend the Great Blue Heron. He doesn't like to hang out much.

Nice! How zoomed is that? I see herons now and then; one of them looks very much like that one. The other is a darker shade. They're very shy though.

I was probably about 20 feet from him when I took the pic. He often stands in the canal and doesn't seem to mind when people walk past on the path right next to it. But, if I go to his secret fishing spot on the river, he hears me coming half a mile away and flies away, making a horrid squawking noise. I don't know why the river location is such a sensitive subject. Maybe that is his mate and I am encroaching on her nesting grounds?
