Hey Saskia - how tall are you and what kind of things do you eat? And how often? This may all be a factor too..

Also, do you do a lot of sports etc? Or under a lot of stress? (Some people lose or gain weight then..)
Or do you forget to eat when behind computer too much? (I sometimes do. :))

Please try to not be so hard about yoursefl.. It's better to try to UNDERSTAND the factors and then go about it in a constructive manner..

If stress is one of the causes more stress is not likely to help you solve this.. ((hugs))
Maybe learning some RELAXATION techniques could help? Or changing menus a bit? To eat more interesting things?

Is this your own opinion or are other people giving you a hard time about this too?
I've been real skinny in high school and some people commented.. I gained some weight naturally at the University then.. Ultimately, the most important thing is that you are HEALTHY!!

Or is this a health risk and parents/doctors are concerned? Could it be an eating disorder or such? (Do you have a support group for this?)

Or do you just eat healthy things and lots of protein and this while good for mental health/health may actually help people lose weight.. So you need to add in healthy food with 'fat' or carbs like avocado or such?

Anyway ((hugz)) and hope things get better!!

I think you should go to the doctor, maybe you have some organ dysfunction.

hm, Lea, that sounds a bit scary... let's hope it might be something less serious.. but yeah, going to a doctor would be goood.. it could also be something with the thyroid etc.

Yeah that´s what I thought. But not all dysfunctions are directly threatening I think.. Or should I have rather said malfunction?

I said it before but if you are like me, trying to gain weight by eating more is just impossible.
Try to get into sports - exercice makes you hungry and you'll get bigger with muscles instead of fat.

Hi Saskia,

I have no experience in this, but my heart tells me that you should see your doctor and have them draw up a special diet for you.:)

Then you can follow what and when to eat and I'm sure this will make you feel better as it is professional advice.

I do take interest in what you have said because since Nov I have worked out everyday and have dropped down to 70kgs.
My problem is the trainer I had was extremely overthe top in what he ate, so now I don't know what to eat, I do eat what I think is right because I don't want to be sick and I love the condition of my body... that's not weird to say is it?

Hey Saskia - how tall are you and what kind of things do you eat? And how often? This may all be a factor too..

Hi, I'm 171 m. Today I ate 4 x bread with Syrup, Coffee, Cookies, Cheese.
We'll have dinner soon and I'll be eating some extra's and tonight i will eat some crisps and again, bread. (I wanna keep this up for now, cuz I don't wanna concern my health.., i have to say I have a very bad eating pattern, but last weeks I try harder to eat more but now suprisingly i lost weight)

Also, do you do a lot of sports etc? Or under a lot of stress? (Some people lose or gain weight then..)
Or do you forget to eat when behind computer too much? (I sometimes do. :))
I go cycling a lot and skating. I am thinking about doing kickboxing on the wii fitt on a daily basis. I do forget to eat when I'm behind computer sometimes or when I need to go somewhere I just go without eating.. -_- I just don't see eating as a normal thing I never get hungry so I think about other things, But I should concern eating as the most important thing. I realised this and now I wanna change it so much.

Please try to not be so hard about yoursefl.. It's better to try to UNDERSTAND the factors and then go about it in a constructive manner..
I'll try, but I should be hard on myself to get through this.. But you're right about understanding the factors, I always been skinny and I always been on the edge of an eating disorder, I don't know what it is.

If stress is one of the causes more stress is not likely to help you solve this.. ((hugs))
Maybe learning some RELAXATION techniques could help? Or changing menus a bit? To eat more interesting things?[/QUOTE]
Relaxation techniques do help a lot, i do them everyday. :)

Is this your own opinion or are other people giving you a hard time about this too?

Some people asked me, are you having an eating disorder? I hope you won't get so far.. I was shocked by the comments.

Or is this a health risk and parents/doctors are concerned? Could it be an eating disorder or such? (Do you have a support group for this?
I don't know if my parents are concerned, my doctor once told me to eat soon or I would get feeding tubes, when I was 15, I was 49 kg back then. o_O
Bcuz I never get hungry I get the same problem over and over again..

Or do you just eat healthy things and lots of protein and this while good for mental health/health may actually help people lose weight.. So you need to add in healthy food with 'fat' or carbs like avocado or such?

Anyway ((hugz)) and hope things get better!!

Thank you Feathers, for the tips.

Yeah veggies are healthier but bread should make her more fat - and now she says she lost more than 5 kg which is A LOT... Maybe the doctor would be a good idea o_O

I will go to the doctor tomorrow, I will ask for a diet to gain weight.
Hopefully she knows a good dietist

legumes are stuff like peas, beans, lentils, rice (not sure if rice is also considered..) but i'm sure u know what i mean.
by protein i mean fish, eggs, meat. (or maybe u are vegetarian?)
p.s you can also add seeds and nuts to your meals, they are full of fats and calories.

and sorry about the last question. i have my own problems with this topic, so it's better for me not to answer.

ok no problem :)

we eat a lot of rice here, my family loves rice :) So that wouldn't be much of a problem, i'm not a vegetarian by the way, we're going to eat fish tonight with fried potatoes and lettuce :) I will eat some sallad too.

I just ate 4 pieces of bread again (ate 8 pieces of bread today lol) and some fruit (pear and oranges)

Tonight I will make a mix of nuts with dried grapes, and sugar in it.

I will do anything to reach it, i feel more positively now so I know that there must be a way :)

Hi Saskia
I´m also very thin, and all my life people have said to me "you are too thin"! And it has always made me feel bad to hear such comments, because I do think I´m too thin, but hey that´s the way I AM and it probably wont change.
My weight changes between 49-53 kilos. I´m not as tall as you though.

Good things to eat are vegetables, nuts & avocado(they have the healthy fat), dark bread made with wholegrain, boiled chickpeas, fish, eggs.
I would recommend not to eat white rice/white pasta/white bread, because it doesn´t really do much good.

Good luck

And by the way, I don´t think you look too thin at all, from what I´ve seen (your pics and videos).

well i can say im new to this whole scared of the world thing lol. I used to be highly motivated and had an organized workout routine but lately since i've pretty much been bound to my house and highly unmotivated and unfocused. I cannot keep a healthy workout routine or eating routine and im losing my weight and it sucks lol. I smoke to many ciggs. b/c how much i stress and just can't seem to stay on a routine, but i can say this in my opinion theirs nothing wrong with a women being to skinny I prefer it actually. but an easy way to gain weight if you have a hard time eating a lot of food is whey protein its a mix drink you can pretty much get anywhere. ::eek::

well, the body is like 60+ % water? in the short term, changes we see in our bodies is usually just water & glycogen. and, our bodies also are built to gain weight easier than lose weight. the more you lose weight, the more the signal turns on for you to gain it back again faster.

you dont ever crave any food? ice cream? chocolate? junk food?

Saskia, you're active but you don't have an appetite to tell you when to refuel, you maybe need to schedule eating times so that you don't forget to eat. Have your three main meals with small snacks in between. Get into the habit of eating/refuelling regularly and don't skip meals, even if out with friends :)

Sorry to hear you've been losing weight. Wow, you don't hear that sentence every day do you? Lol. Anyway....

As for your diet, I would include more fats, whole grains, and starches. Don't turn to refined foods. They really don't do your body any good. Can you tolerate nuts? Nuts are a great way to put fat in the body, especially good fats like Omega 3's. :) Are you a big meat eater? I think if you increased your meat intake, you'd gain a bit of weight too. I know you already know this one, but I'm going to include it anyway: Dairy. Keep up with the dairy intake. Great source of calcium and fat for the body.

For vegetables, try going for those with a high starch content. Try eating more potatoes, corn, and beans. For grains, always try to go for whole grains like whole wheat (if you can tolerate it), brown rice rather than white, oatmeal, quinoa (this is an excellent source of protein too. One of my favorites :)), etc.

Those are just my suggestions. Oh, have you ever tried to keep a food diary? I think I might have recommended this before... Heck maybe you can start counting calories too? Just to see how many you're getting in a day? That might be too much of a bother though, but I think it's worth a shot. :)

I will still suggest that getting to a healthty BMI takes priority over eating healthy foods. Eat crisps if you feel like it :)

Your family likes rice - parboiled rice is not as healthy as brown rice, but it does have good vitamin values and indigestible starch (works like fibres) - and In my experience its easy to eat a lot of :) Unpeeled potatoes are also good for you and easy to eat a bunch of.
Whole grain is definitely healthier, but it will make you feel full easier. In my experience wholegrain pasta and bread make you full in notime - not a great featureif you want to gain weight.

Put avocado in all of your salads. Or give it a bit of olive oil. Unsaturated fats right there.

Cheese is good. Good source of protein and energy. It does have mostly saturated fat but if you eat less than your recommended daily energy intake anyway, you will need the energy.

You should eat fat fish when you can. Pork is also alright, because of the balanced protein<>fat and saturated fat<>unsaturated fat ratio (you should check though, fat composition is dependent on what the pigs are fed, and Im not sure what they feed pigs in Holland). I wouldnt recommend low fat fish (no energy, protein makes you full fast) and beef (mostly saturated fat)

Hey Saskia,

Well, I'm taller than you and only had 55kg in high school.. some people asked if I had an eating disorder too and I didn't!! it's really kinda annoying if they asked that.. (especially since a friend who asked me really DID have an eating disorder kinda!!) So remember, maybe THEY have an eating disorder and are trying to find someone who also has it??

You look just fine in photos, yeah!! But it's still good to check with the doctor..

Sugar, cookies and coffee can actually speed up your metabolism.. try to stay away from coffee if you can.. if you have low blood pressure and need a 'lift' try cocoa... (ideally with real cocoa and no sugar, dark cocoa like what you bake cakes with.. try to stay away from cakes too ideally lol..)

What really made me add on weight as a teenager was when my Granny made 'grilled cheese' (you know, cheese in wheat flour, egg and breadcrumbs, and fried! yum! I don't eat gluten these days, so other ways for that can be done..) or 'grilled hot dogs' (it's not really healthy but made me put on weight) (hot dogs split in half, with bacon, fried in a pan) I think I ate that with bread but potatoes or rice or other grains would be better.. potatoes are quick to digest too, wholewheat grains can stabilize your blood sugar more..

It's good to exercise and also lift weights and such, to build muscle and 'stronger bones'! (stronger bones are good anti-osteoporosis and it will make you heavier too..)
If you exercise remember you must eat MORE (and different things) than if you just sit around all day..

Yeah, SCHEDULE for meals is a great idea!! someone who had an eating disorder said how great she felt when she was in a hospital specialized for this and they set up a firm schedule for meals.. she tried to keep the same schedule when she got home, though it wasn't so easy.. can you maybe set a timer, on computer or on cell phone or real 'egg timer' or alarm clock? 'FOOD TIME'!!

Is it easier to eat with people? Can you maybe arrange to meet up with someone for lunch?

Are you alone during the day and hate cooking so it's easier to 'just take something' and end up eating bread? It would be great to vary your food more, yup! there seems to be a lot of bread (and cookies) in the mix.. can you try to start the day with some protein too? (eg eggs, or milk/dairy products if you're not intolerant of those?)

If you might be gluten intolerant or celiac too much bread would be bad indeed... Do you feel better after dinner with non-bread food and some protein/meat/fish?

People can lose weight from 'just vegetarian' or 'just protein/meat' food.. so if you want to gain weight maybe a combination of both would be good.. (though that depends on how well your stomach can digest it..)

Protein= meat, eggs, milk/dairy... some in legumes (beans, peas...) too, and in other food like quinoia
PS rice is not a legume, it's a grain (like wheat or oats etc)

if you only eat protein in the evening, you may lack energy in the morning/day, if you have a quick metabolism you may burn the carbs (like bread, cookies, grains) quickly...

fruit is 'burnt' quite quickly too.. it's good for vitamins, won't really make you add weight.. (except eg avocado or nuts) if you might have something like the infamous 'candida' overgrowth (though doctors in our country don't really believe in it), anything sweet would be 'not so great' so raisins with sugar or sweet fruit might be not so great either..

raw vegetables are healthy and good for vitamins, usually they won't make you put on weight alone.. it's still good to eat them yeah.. some cooked vegetables can maybe add some weight if they are starchy like said before..

You may also wanna google something like 'metabolism gain weight'... (to maybe get some ideas, ideally discuss any changes with your doctor or dietician/nutricionist though!)

Overly sleepy now, hope you manage to find a system that will be good for you!! :)
