Car accident

Hey everyone,

Sorry i havnt been on in forever and a day here.....Ive been in the hospital for the last while.

I was driving my dad's truck, and was at a red light. It turned green for me and i started to go, and suddenly i hear what sounds like a foghorn going off to my left. I just have time to look and see the grill of a semi bearing down on me. Apparently the truck driver couldnt stop because of ice on the road and he hit me, hard on the drivers side of my dads truck. He impacted just behind the cab and sheered my dads truck in 2 pieces. I dont remember any of this, i took a good blow to the head, hard enough to crack the driver side window and passed out.

So i woke up in the hospital, and i couldnt remember what had happened to me or how id got there. Aside from a giant pain in the ass headache i felt more or less fine. Now, stupidly, BECAUSE i didnt realize what had happened, when my wife came in to see me, she asked me how i was, if i was ok, and stupidly i say "uhh who are you??".

And of courses like omg omg! you dont know who i am???. And i go "relax baby its ok im just goofing around....what happened?. And i feel more or less ok".

So she tells me everything that happened and i think the color drained from my face when i saw pics of the accident. I cant believe i didnt get hurt seriously, in fact i think im lucky to be alive.

Ive been in the hospital for a while because of my blow to the head. SMall short term memory was scrambled, im having a hard time remembering peoples names and such, but nothing too serious. I also suffered 4 broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder. So ive been on bed rest for a while.

Im finally at the point where i can type alright, so wanted to let everyone here know im still alive and kickin! lol.

Anyways, im getting tired, so im gonna go rest. But hope everyone is doing well ands i will post again later :).

Oh wow. D: You are very lucky to be alive. I'm so glad you're safe! Well, aside from the broken bones and memory loss, but still, you're alive and kicking!

I wish you all the best with the rest of your recovery.

I forgot to mention those are the injuries i got from the car accident.

Im a little doped up right now so its hard to really think straight.

In addition to my broken bones i also had a collapsed lung. They had initially put a breathing tube in to compensate, but apparently there was a kink in it, and air started going into my chest, which caused my OTHER lung to collapse. So needless to say, bad things happened there and i got rushed to surgery and they were able to fix things.

So thats also why ive been away for so long, lol.

Oh my god! That really was a lucky break! When I read that, I was reminded of the accident my mom had and..... well, I haven't been worried that much in my entire life! Are you going to be okay? Your short-term memory loss will wear off right?

Oh wow :( Glad you are okay. I couldn't help but smile at what you said to your wife. It's something I would probably say to mine as well.

thanks for the thoughts everyone. I appreciate it.

Im looking at a 2 month recovery apparently so heres hoping X.

Im told my memory problems will hopefully clear themselves up, as they ran some scans on me and no brain damage was found luckily. So THATS a relief.
Just need to sit and wait.

I sure am glad my babe is here to help me though....not to get descriptive, but little things that im so used to doing are a real PITA now....like going to the bathroom.....or even just getting up from a laydown position.

Weaksauce!

What an insane accident! You're very lucky to be alive.

This goes to show how you can be totally fine one second, and the next you're waking up in hospital with broken bones and collapsed lungs and no memory of why you're there. Anything can happen to anyone at any time.

Glad to hear you're okay, mate.

Wow man, I´m so glad that you are more or less okay now at least.
I knew a guy who died on his motorcycle - green light but someone hit him from the side, like in your accident.

Wow. Just wow. I'm very glad to hear you're doing okay. That's no laughing matter. I'm always afraid of things like this happening to people from this site. Absolutely happy that you're okay.

I (kinda) know a guy who is now a paraplegic from a motorcycle accident, so I guess we both have similar thoughts here.

Yes. I always think about that guy who died - when I get a ride on my friends motorcycle . Not the coolest thought to have while riding..

Definitely not. I am surprised you still would want to get on a motorcycle anyway!

A couple of friends of mine were considering getting their bike licence, but aren't doing it now because of the paraplegic guy. Puts things into perspective a little bit.

Anyway, Lone Gunman, sorry to digress, but we're just glad you're okay!
