Anyone find themselves pleased about others' misfortune?

I just wondered, cause it actually really bothers me and its turned into quite an ugly trait., that I find myself really pleased when things to go to plan for people or go wrong. e.g breaking up of relationship, failure at a exam etc... Whats weird is that its with my FRIENDS. i mean youd think anyone youd wish bad things on wld be somoene you dont care about. but obvsoulsy i do care about the few people i like and who migt consider me a friend in return. Maybe its just the jealously that overtakes everything, they all have their own friends and lives that seem to take priority over me all the time, spose i feel unfairly treated alot of the time, so its like a esentful thing, but at the end of the day i do feel it towards people i consider my friends.
Has anyone else had similar feelings? It kinda worries me..

I do feel the same way, but only sometimes. I think it only happens when u feel worthless and like a total failure urself, and when someone else meets that fate, u feel like u r not alone...

Yes I'm the same.
Don't feel bad about it.
I read somewhere that schadenfreude is typical for people with low self-esteem. And the only way to be have more love for other people is if you have more love for yourself. So the last thing we need is to feel guilty about what a bad person we are because we laugh at people's misery. So don't feel bad about this. otherwise you'll never get cured

The insane pleasure of pain

I can't say that I feel the same way. I certainly don't feel pleasure out of other's misfortune, I don't really feel immense empathy either. Maybe I just feel neutral towards the whole thing, with a little bit of the "woah that sucks" in there. Of course, it also depends on the severity of the misfortune. I think the only time I might be pleased about someone else's misfortune would be when it is an act of revenge.

It's ok. It might just be because you're very unhappy, so when others feel that too it makes you feel comforted. Misery loves company. And I feel that way sometimes too.

I used to when I was younger, but I'm really growing out of it. In my teens I would love to hear embarrassing stories about people I know, it kind of took the focus off my own life for a while, which I was grateful for. Now I don't get much of a kick out of it at all. That whole gleeful factor is missing.

Gary:
Right now you are down and out
And feelin' really crappy.

Nikki:
I’ll say.

Gary:
And when I see how sad you are,
It sorta makes me happy.

Nikki:
Happy?

Gary:
Sorry Nikki.
Human nature-
Nothing I can do.
It’s Schadenfreude
Making me feel glad that I’m not you.

Nikki:
Now that’s not very nice Gary.

Gary:
I didn’t say it was nice,
But everybody does it.
‘Dya ever clap when a waitress falls
And drops a tray of glasses?

Nikki:
Yeah.

Gary:
And ain’t it fun to watch figure skaters
Fallin’ on their asses?

Nikki:
Sure.

Gary:
Don’t you feel all warm and cozy
Watching people out in the rain?

Nikki:
You bet.

Gary:
That’s...

Both:
Schadenfreude!

Gary:
People taking pleasure in your pain.

Nikki:
Oh. Schadenfreude, huh? What’s that? Some kind of Nazi word?

Gary:
Yup. It’s German for ‘happiness at the misfortune of others’.

Nikki:
‘Happiness at the misfortune of others’
That is German!

Watching a vegetarian
Being told she just ate chicken.

Gary:
Or watching a frat boy
Realize just what he put his dick in.

Nikki:
Being on an elevator when somebody
Shouts ‘Hold the door!’

Gary:
Oh yeah!

Both:
No!
Schadenfreude…

Gary:
F*** you lady!
That’s what stairs are for!

Nikki:
Ooh- How about:
Straight A student’s getting B’s…

Gary:
Exes getting STDs…

Nikki:
Waking doormen from their naps…

Gary:
Watching tourists reading maps…

Nikki:
Football players getting tackled…

Gary:
CEOs getting shackled…

Nikki:
Watching actors never reach…

Both:
The ending of their Oscar speech!
Schadenfreude!
Schadenfreude!
Schadenfreude!
Schadenfreude!

Gary:
The world needs people like you and me
Who’ve been knocked around by fate
‘Cause when people see us
They don’t want to be us
And that makes them feel great

Nikki:
Sure.
We provide a vital service to society.

Both:
You and me!
Schadenfreude!
Making the world a better place
Making the world a better place
Making the world a better place to be!

Gary:
S-C-H-A-D-E-N-F-R-E-U-D-E!

I find myself pleased, but usually towards my enemies. I have a cousin who for some reason unknown seem to hate me, he hasen't talked to me for years now I think. Because my mom discussed my problems openly, I think poeple including him knew about it and I bet he was damn gleeful about it. For years, he's life went smoothly and my was down in the dumps, but a year back, he's life took a sudden change, he got a girl pregnant and had to marry her!! I was over the moon when I heard, now, he's chained to a kid and woman for life. Yeah, I am terrible, but really, I hardly imagine he didn't get a good laugh when I couldn't work/school for the many years in my life, I bet he was laughing his ass off as well so we are even.

Well i think i used to ;s not now anyways. I don't think i would want people to have misfortunes, even if it's people i rly don't like from school or anywhere really. Maybe cos i think karma is real ;[
I should probably just be good from now on..
xx

For some people I feel very pleased when they fail, but not for everyone. Some people deserve to fail. Maybe I sound selfish? But some people don't deserve to be fortunate.

When Im having a shit day I want everyone else to have a shit day, selfish but thats the way I am.

We're all used to bad luck and suppose we dont think its fair everyone else should be having luck.

it' not like I feel good about it, neither do u.. it just makes u feel relieved that r not the only shitty one all the time... but the worst thing is when that person who had just been in a misfortune... has something good happen to him, and r still stuck at the same place, makes u feel even shittier...
