  • Hi Rans :)

I love lilies :) I like gardening too esp growing flowering plants but I'm a flop in it. I tried growing a rose plant last month and it dies in just 2 weeks. =(

May I ask why you chose to cut down on certain types of meat? I'm glad to hear that you enjoy eating vegetables and fruits. They are healthy. What fruits do you like most? :)

i enjoy cooking too. I like to look up for recipes in the internet, take them down and cook every Sunday. I only cook on Sundays (to refresh my cooking skills) because I'm busy with school stuff. My mother will cook the meals for the other remaining days.

Take care and have a pleasant weekend :)
Or the TV cartoon adaptations... But, yeah, films are definitely a more powerful media compared to comic books. But then films is more accessible to a wider audience, where's as comics are a very niche, in many ways. They're their own thing.

Though, film tends to catch on more quickly within pop culture.

Favourite comic book villians? Well, off the top of my head, there's...

    Venom
    Doctor Octopus
    Apocalypse
    The Lizard
    Mr Sinister
    Magneto
    Mysterio
    The Joker
    Shredder
Hi.Its hard to please everyone when it comes to movies.Escpically when the film characters are drawn from comic books loved by lots of people around the world.Characters like Spiderman,Captain America have been around for a long time.Probably the films have introduced these characters to alot of people who may then pick up the comics, dvds. The power of film.In some ways films are more powerful than images, words on a page I think.

What are some of your favourite comic book villians.
So, here's some of my favourite superhero films:

    Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
    Flash Gordon
    Daredevil
    Spider-Man 2
    Hulk
    Batman Forever
    Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
    X-Men 2
    Iron Man
Hellboy & Hellboy II: The Golden Army
    Mystery Men

Ah've probably missed a few, but we'd be here for days if ah listed tha whole lot. Plus, ah thought it'd be better to make tha list first then explain the reasons for some of ma choices - some being more obvious than others. :giggle:
Those Star Trek films by JJ Abrams are pretty forgetable, though.

And sci-fi in general isn't everyone cup of tea. But then we all have our own preferred genres (be it movies, music or books).

I think the whole cosplay thing within is pretty cool - it's the fans way of show love for the TV shows or movies or video games they like. I actuallly saw a BBC documentary about it. I mean, you gotta really love Star Trek, Star Wars or Doctor Who or whatever you're a fan of to take the time to hand-make yer own constume.

Favourite superhero films...? Eh, does that included those superhero films that are freakin' awful an' bad, yet great at the same time?
    Hi Rans :)

Oh the courses you took are interesting. What are your favourite plants that you like to plant? :)

As for me, I don't mind being alone at times. But there are a few times that I do long for a companion (friend , life partner etc.)

Ok sure, will work on my social skills :) And also have more positive thoughts about myself

What are your favourite food and cuisine? :)
Yeah, The Sarah Jane Adventures. I actually prefered that over the other Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood, for the same reasons you stated.

Not a huge fan of it, but I do like Star Trek or appreciate for what it is. My preference in terms of original or Next Generation lends more toward Star Trek - Next Generation simply because I grew-up during the late 80s/early 90s, when the series original aired so remember catch a random episode here and there. If I recall correctly, used to be on BBC 2 here in the UK? Though, I probably be more of a fan if I watched both Star Trek series from start to finish to get a better idea of what the series is about. That said I didn't think much of these JJ Abrams produced & directed Star Trek reboot movies. The only enjoyable element of those movies for me was Simon Pegg as Scotty - for obvious reasons.
I think the main reason for my liking the X-Men Days of Future Past was mainly time-travel aspect... But then I'm also a Doctor Who fan. :giggle:

Yeah, I love those story arcs and plots that go for multiple titles, as well. Not that I've read many, though. Well, not lately, but should get back into doing that.

And nice choice in Marvel character origin story, mate. Daredevil - can't go wrong there.
    Hi Rans :)

Hmm, to be honest I have not made any friends in my course yet. (even though I am in year 3 now.)

I do try to talk to some people in my classes. Some seem friendly but most seem to be not interested in conversing with me. Even those friendly ones, I lost contact with them after the semester ends. It clearly seems that they are not looking for long-term friendship. I do feel that I need to improve my social skills greatly.

What did you study in college? :) In my opinion, getting to know 2 to 3 friends in college is really a good start for socializing. :) Keep it up and be proud of yourself :)
Sorry, just realised ah didnae answer yer last question, fully.

Aside that Avengers series and Iron Man, ah huv'nae seen any of those other animated shows you mentioned (Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk and the Agents of SMASH or recent animated version of Superman). Ah actually huv'nae watched any Superman related show since Justice League.

But that's mainly due to tha fact that ah don't really keep up with many TV shows now, unless I remember that they're on. Usually, ah either wait for tha DVD of whatever show to come out. Or, if tha quality's good, I'll either, eh, download it... Or just stream it if I can get a decent enough broadband connection. :)

Anyway, ah'll be offski. Bye for now. Take care o' yerself.
Aye, I'm like you prefer the English language dub of most manga and anime movies or TV shows. Since the brilliant animation style, as well as the use of split screen, there's enough to take in without having to read subtitles too.

I caught a few episodes of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes an Iron Man, just a few episodes at random, though not enough to form a full opinions of the shows as whole. But what I saw looked great, especially from an animation point. I especially like tha manga/anime style approach, the animators took with Iron Man. And Fantastic Four -World's Greatest Heroes was great, shame it was cancelled for whatever, unknown reason.
I think my not appreciating anime as a kid was more to do with the hype that resulted when it starting become popular in the Western countries. Also, the anime animation style take a bit of getting use to, if you grew up with the more traditional 2D animation style of the likes of Disney or Warner Bros.

I mean, here in the UK, fights in the playground over those Pokemon trading cards were frequent when those were all the rage. Ridiculous!

But I guess, it's like anything you watch at a young age, if you didn't get it then you'll get it when yer older, if you give it a second chance. Though, as you said, adults can be exactly the same, set in their own way.

By the way, since I mentioned anime, what's your opinion on English versus Japanese dub? Or is that just as trivial an issue for you, as it is me?
Aye, ah tend to limit myself when buying comics or graphic novels. I don't have much cash to spare, either. But if I can get, either, just couple of comics or an annual of graphic novels, I'm happy with that.

And yer right about the cover art of Marvel and DC titles - they're definitely pieces of art. The detail, the colour, the composition of the image. And they're always eye catching. So, I get why front covers of comics are collected by some more so than the comc as a whole.

Aye, Ghibuli Studio make some good quality films, and I've seen those films you mentioned. Haven't seen them for a while but I enjoyed them all, but my favourite would be Arriety - mainly because the story and animation are beautifully done.
And yer right about graphic novels and comics being pricey. But considering that in some cases you get multiple issues in a single volume, they're well worth the money, in my opinion. And if some titles go outta print an' you didn't manage to buy the last ever issue then you'll be pay a fair bit for it.

I like animated films as well. Though, didn't really watch many over Xmas. I think the last animated film I watch was that anime/manga film The Girl Who Lept Through Time, which I enjoyed. Been gettin' into anime a lot these past few years as an adult. Making up for ma past ignorance of the genre I wasn't keen on as a kid.

Anyway, enough of me wilting on. Again, nice chattin' wi' ya. :)

Hope yer doing well, and my apologies for the late replies.
I haven't really branched out much to non-superhero titles, expect for The Preacher series by Garth Ennis’. Though, it's pretty a over-the-top more violent version of Clint Eastwood western. Mind you, the story is pretty epic.

I haven't read of 'em but I've heard Scott Pilgram is supposed to a really good comic? I've only seen the movie, which I liked. But I don't know if the comic will be any good.

Sadly the local comic book store in my town shut down years ago and my local newsagent only get in Marvel titles. But thankfully there's shop called Forbidden Planet in Glasgow that sells comics, graphic novels, limited edition DVDs, toys, collectable items. It's a geek's paradise if yer comic book junkie or well intae yer genre fiction - superheroes, sci-fi, horror.
Not being into the violent titles isn't odd, at all. Obvious the superhero genre is more yer preference in comic books - and that's fine. I don't really like to limit myself to a single genre (be in ma tastes in comic books, music or movies).

But I'm not hugely into the more violent titles, either. Aside from The Preacher but the violence an' death wasn't what attracted me - the story is always ma main focus as to whether I'm going to enjoy reading a certain comic book.

But I digress... You've got a good taste in comics, Rans. Can't go wrong wi' Marvel or DC. I'm definitely going to look into possibly gettin' some of those DC titles you mentioned when I can afford to treat masel' to some new comics.

Nice chattin' wi' ye, as always. :)
Wish you a very happy and prosperous New Year too. :) May your dreams come true and you and your family be blessed with good health, happiness, fortune and many more happy returns to come.

What are your new year resolutions? :)
    Hello Rans

I am glad to hear that you have been working on overcoming your negative thoughts. :)

Actually, I also do find it tough. I have read in books stating that it can take months or even years to really overcome negativity. But the key is persistence and consistence. :)

It does take time. The way is going slowly at a time. You can only chip off anxiety bit by bit and a day will come that you can totally overcome anxiety. So don't worry that its taking time :)

Enjoyed to hear how you celebrated Christmas. For my family, we celebrate very simply. Cook a few dishes and cut the Christmas log cake.

Yup having a pet will be very pleasant and nice. I do look forward to keeping a pet dog in the future.

Hmm, I'm sad that Christmas is over because it means that holidays are over and school is going to start again. :( But, life has to go on.
