  • Creative differences like when lead singers leave popular bands to go solo or do side-projects.

Like when Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford left their respective bands for solo projects. I think Maiden and Priest should put music for those bands on hold until Bruce and Rob were ready to come back. In the meantime, the rest of Priest and Maiden could've equally done solo or side-projects. Unless they parted ways on bad terms...

Like Metallica did with Dave Mustaine. Having heard both sides of that story, kicking Mustaine out while Lars, James and Kirk were getting shit-faced almost every gig, was hypocritical and unfair. They should've all went to rehab and sorted themselves out.
With regards to rock band break-ups, it's sad in some cases when a promintent member of a band leaves - especially if it's due to creative differences or just not getting along.

And they're have been many over the years.

Metallica with Jason Newstead. Though, James, Kirk and Lars were total arseholes towards Jason when he inititally joined 'Tallica. I don't think that got less over time and contributed to Newstead leaving. Which was a shame because his backing vocals live were always on point and harmonised with Hetfield's lead vocals nicely. Also, not allowing Jason the creative freedom to release music outside of Metallica - that was a c*nty move on Hetfield and Ulrich's part. A decision that really came back to haunt them if you listened to Newstead's recent solo album.
I get yer point about Fightstar - and kinda agree. But I just think Alex Westaway's singing voice is only irrating because it doesn't really harmonise well with Charlie Simpson. He's the weaker of the two. Still a great band, though.

Last I heard they'd decided to take a long break after their tour to do side-projects, I think that was around 2010. But I hear they've recently starting doing gigs again and writing new music.

Oh! I've accumlated a fair few CDs in the last 14 years. A few hundred thousand. Organising them would probably give a better idea of how many I got. But there're all over the place, since I tend to leave albums lying around.

Got a few vinyl albums as well - some Rod Stewart, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden. Not that many compared to my CD collection, though. But still they're nice to have - since you get a better appreciation of the album artwork with vinyl.
And yer right, copycat bands are nothing new... Happens within every music genre when a certain band or singer with specific style becomes hugely popular - Nirvana, as you said. Though, most bands who are categorised as post-grunge were mostly influenced by either Nirvana, Pearl Jam or Soundgarden or other band around in the early 90s. Not that sounding like another band is a bad thing per say. It just some of bands can end up sounding like a cheap imitation of a far better band, in some cases.

That said I do like some bands that have emerged since 2000 as well. Queens of the Stone Age (though, technically, they'd be late 90s), Biffy Clyro, Kings of Leon, Fightstar, Artic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs - as you previously mentioned. Audioslave were prety good too. Can't really think of any others off the top of my head.

Anyway... hope yer doing well.
Awright, sorry. D'oh! :eek:h: What an eejit, I am, eh?

Eh, ah've been listening to Faith No More quite a lot, lately. As well as other Mike Patton related bands (Mr. Bungle, Peeping Tom). And some Talking Heads. Oh, and Mogwai.

Gave Chinese Democracy by Guns N' Roses another listen through, recently - not as bad as the critics make it out to be. Some tracks could've definitely made the Use Your Illusion albums. Though, I think Axl Rose should really just go solo because it's
Guns N' Roses in name only at this point. Or get back on good terms with Slash and reunite.

What other bands have been listening to...? Oh, Black Sabbath. Rush and some tunes by Weezer.

Other than it's been mainly instrumental music for me. Classical or otherwise.

Haven't listen to Michael Jackson, Queen or Feeder in ages.
My memory for music isn't that good. If you asked me what band or singer wrote a certain song, there's 2% chance I'd be able to tell ya. Which year a certain album was released by a certain band, more of chance.

Most recent artist I've been listening to? Miley Cyrus... Nah! Just joking. There aren't many, since I don't really listen to a lot of these newer bands that around now. The only one that comes to my mind is Follow That Compass, an ambient instrumental bass and piano duo from Russia. Don't really listen to much rock or metal music, either - outside of yer legendary, "old-school" bands. Because it all sounds the same nowadays.

F**k! Ah sound "old" for somebuddy in their mid-to-late 20s, don't I? :giggle: Do I still listen to whole albums...? F**kin' aye! Ah'd much rather listen to a whole album beginning to end than the same song over and over again - unless ah hit "Repeat song" on ma stereo. :sarcastic:
Can't argue with your favourite guitar riffs and songs. All great guitar riffs.

Yeah, my favourite guitar riff list was pretty much off the top on my head. As well as what albums I've been listening to, lately.

And picking those Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, Metallica and Guns N' Roses songs and guitar riffs was only difficult, in that, those bands can have like multiple great riff within a single song. Oh! And an added addition to my favourite guitar riffs and song... Surprise! You're Dead! by Faith No More. That's song has an awesome main riff.
    Hi Rans :)

Thanks for wishing me. =) Ok sure, I'll try planting lilies this time. =)

As a vegetarian, I face difficulty in finding restaurants/food outlets that offer vegetarian options. But as for food choices, its possible to cook the vegetarian option. =) I have tried vegetarian fish and chips, lamp chop, pizza and pasta etc. =) But I do agree that there are some food dishes that I can't try :(

Oh you use Indian spices? Thats nice =) Do you use turmeric, fennel seeds, fenugreek etc.? =)

Oh I love Queen and M Jackson. Esp 'We are the champions'by Queen and 'Black or white'by M Jackson. =)

For Beatles, I like 'In My Life', 'No Reply' and 'A day in the life' a lot. But other Beatles songs are nice to listen too. =)

For Carpenters, I like 'Close to you', 'Yesterday once more', 'Rainy days and mndays' and 'Top of the world'. =)

As for Adele, I like 'Fire in the rain' and 'Someone like you' :)

    How about you? :)
Since you brought up the topic of songwriting, I think having just one songwriter can put a lotta pressure on that member of a group to keep producing quality songs, like Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, for example. And if they can maintain the quality expected by fans, then great.

Though, group songwriting credits does ensure less argument over royalities, and ensure every member of a band contributes something. But I think group songwriting works best in a jam session where ideas are just getting fleshed out. It's also a good way of ensure everyone contributes in the writing process.

Having one songwriter and the music written by the band can take some pressure off, in terms of the main songwriter writing the lyrics and music as well as doing composition arrangement. Also, anyway to main the rest of the band contribute to the creative process. Kinda like prog-rocker Rush where Neil Peart writes the lyrics and Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee write the music.

Okay, there's a varied selection of my favourite guitar riffs.

I'm well aware that I've probably glossed over and missed a few out...

Well do you have instagram? I happen to have some very nice photos of our state there. Santa fe my home town is beautiful. Taos is where I'm staying now. There are many lakes and rivers here. Smaller scale but nice. Red River is a small neat town. Albuquerque is our major metropolitan. white sand Is an interesting one to look at. Los Alamos is one of the most infamous due to its role in ww2.

I love the outdoors. Amateur photography. Fishing. Camping. Just got into kayakING over the last summer so will be doing more of That.

I would love to see your side of the world! I appreciate places rich in history and culture.
Oh, by the way, do you still want to know what bands I'm into or do you just want me to list my favourite guitar riffs and songs? Because we could be here all day with either of those lists.
    Hiya, Rans

True point about the acoustic guitar, mate. Though, the acoustic's a more sit-down and chill out instrument, anyway.

Saying Slash is overrated... Well, he is. Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of both Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver. But Slash's guitar solo are the only impressive part of playing.

At least, Joe Satriani, Jimi Hendrix and Dimebag Darrell all had something within their playing style that was uniquely their own - aside from their guitar solos. Mainly their sound.

And the whole multiple guitarist in a band where one got more credit than the other - Guns N' Roses, being a prime example. Mainly because Slash was the player who stood out. You can't really say the same of Iron Maiden. Well, maybe Steve Harris because he's the main songwriter. But the rest of the band all bring something unique musically to that band, overall.
New mexico is in the southwest united states. 5th largest state. It is a beautiful place if you care to Google images.

    Where abouts are you?

I enjoy the snow but not the cold. Do not enjoy driving in the snow. I tried snowboarding once but it's too rough for me.
Yeah, kinda the same with motivation when feelin' low or having alot on my mind. Felt drained, lacking focus, feeling sleepy during the day.

Anyway... I've been playing guitar for nearly 13 years, in total. Started lessons age 14 but quit those when I was 16 because I wasn't improving. So have been self-taught since then.

Definitely prefer the electric. But the acoustic is great for working out chord progressions, not so great for yer more complex guitar riffs or solos, though. So that'd be the only downside.

Yeah, I do the same thing - the wishing I was a great guitarist like Joe Satriani or the late, great "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Which are both inspiring and a kick in the balls for yer playing, if just starting out. But gives you a reason to stick with it

Mark Tremoni and Slash are great. Slash is slightly overrated, in my opinion. Tremonti's definitely underrated. I also like those bands you mentioned. Haven't listen to them in awhile, though.
    Hi Rans :)

Nice! =) I was thinking, do you have a garden at home?

Okay sure, I'll try growing some plants again during my next vacation. =) Yup, you are right, I think I placed the rose plant at a place there isn't too much sunlight.

I'm a animal lover too =) I'm a vegetarian (though I take dairy products and eggs). I love potatoes too. :)

I'm an Indian so I cook a lot of Indian dishes. =) Like curries, chappathis and briyani (flavoured basmati rice).

I also love to cook Chinese-styled fried rice and Macaroni and cheese. :)

How about you? What are your favourite meals that you like to cook? :) Have you tried Indian food before?

I mostly listen to pop songs. I listen to many retro songs. I love the Carpenters and the Beatles. I also like some of Adele and Maroon 5 songs (in the current era) =)

    How about you? =)
I don't really speak much to coworkers. I usually just keep to myself.

Yeah people eat out a lot here. I try not to do it too often though since its a lot more unhealthy and costs more. We have the usual fast food places like McDonald's and wendys. We also have pizza shops and Chinese restaurants.
    Hiya, Rans

Sorry, I didn't reply to yer last private message. I will, eventually. Just been feeling pretty tired lately.

Anyway... Aye, I play the guitar - both acoustic and electric. I've been playing since I was 14, so can play quite a lotta chords. As well as a few songs. Though, it's been kinda "on / off" lately with playing guitar.

Barre chords, guitar solos and the more advanced music theory is still a struggle for me. Still need some practise.

6 chords is pretty good if you've only began playing a few months ago. I'm guessing you only just started out learning the guitar? I found transitioning between chords nd continuious strumming really difficult inititally when I first started learning to play.

I advice sticking with it if you''ve only started playing guitar, because your muscle memory will improve, eventually. Then you'll only need to focus on getting the coordination between the fretting hand, chord changes and strumming patterns.
