Fear of being judged for having unusual tastes in music.

For some reason I really like the first Twilight movie. But I dont go around telling anyone because I feel like I shouldn't (society's standards that a 6ft tall bloke with tatts shouldn't like that sort of movie)..

Speaking of twilight, that movie had some pretty good music go with it that a 16 year old me wasn't exactly shouting from the rooftops that he liked, but at 26 will now happily blare for all to hear ::p:

I don't go around brag about my love of rock n' metal music for the very same reason. Cuz, according to society's standards and my older sister's "opinion", I should be listening to, predominantly, R&B and rap music and whatever is currently being played on Top 40 radio - because I'm mixed race. :eek:mg: And, by that fact alone, I shouldn't be listening to that "guitar, metal sh*te" as my older sibling call it. :giggle:

You're not wrong there, especially the soundtrack for the first Twilight movie.

I was listening to their "best of" album a couple months ago, and really listening to the lyrics, and it donned on me that I would feel very uncomfortable listening to any of their songs around my mother (and a lot of people) ::p: My dad on the other hand saw them in concert last summer, and he said they haven't missed a beat!

And just to continue this random train of consciousness, the last (and only) time I went to a concert with my father was to see Anna Nalick, who I saw again (for the third time) last fall during which she made a reference to the Violent Femmes (their song kiss off) which I would never had picked up on had my father never been such a fan of the band and bought their cd for his children to listen to growing up.

What I'm trying to say, is sometimes things are weird and I like it

Lol, maybe I should rename this thread;
"Post music that most would consider unusual or weird, but you actually love"

Maybe I could then post my weird music tastes hidden amongst those of everyone else. :p

I am still too chicken to post anything, even though this thread has made me realise how ridiculous it is to worry about it, because everyone else in here is brave enough to not care.

C'mon Blue... :) you can do it too! :applause:

You guys are making me feel really judgemental.
In what way? I don't understand? :idontknow:

My fear of being judged for my music tastes is based only on what thoughts exist in my mind.
You know that people like us think irrational thoughts about all kinds of things, that we know may not actually be the case, but that doesn't stop us from thinking them. :eek:h:

What I don't appreciate is a song I like bring hijacked by a movie that is not so good.
I hear you, Kiwong.
It is also frustrating when someone does a cover version of an original song that was really great, but then a singer/band totally ruins it, and turns it into something that is truly cringeworthy.

I was just joking, saying this music is so lame that you're making me judge it.

Here's my contribution:

Yes, especially an unusual or less popular song that almost feels your own. On the other hand though, when a song or artist I really like is included in a good movie or tv show, I immediately like the movie or show more. For example, I watch the show Mr.Robot, and during the last season finale I recognized the instrumental for a Fiona Apple song, and it made a show I already enjoyed that much better

Had it been included in some crude adult comedy though, I would not have had the same reaction.

A bit late/Fashionably late  to the party, but I'll just throw in my two cents. I'll expect it back later though:giggle:.

I don't think you should be afraid or ashamed of your type of music, BlueDays. It's what you like after all and, well, there's no accounting for taste. We like what we like and we're not hurting anyone by liking it. I've been insulted about my tastes in music and told that what I like is weird (I typically listen to music from video games), but it's all just opinions. Words and nothing else. Words that only have as much power over you as you let them.

So, no worries. Chances are, someone here will like your music as well or you'll introduce someone to a brand new field of music:).

Sometimes, yeah. :c But something that I really struggle with is listening to music without headphone while someone is around, and even with headphones it makes me uncomfortable.

Music just feels kinda personal, vulnerable and intimate to me.

Me too!. The worst is in a supermarket with bright lights, and a soppy "intimate" song comes on, and there's nowhere to hide! :blushing:

Oh i can relate to this. When i was young i remember my parents bought me a stereo for my birthday and i really had to cry. I was ashamed of what music i listened too. Not that my taste is that unusual, but i was afraid to tell people what i listen to. It's better now, but still i don't like to get the question what music i like.

Maybe it's because i feel like it says something about me. Like a painting tells something about the artist. I have this with clothes too kinda. I'm a pain in the *** to go shopping with xD
