Afraid to answer the phone

I have this fear a lot. I will freeze up every time I call a taxi and I forget what I'm about to say. Then when your the only one home and the phone rings I always hope that its not a stranger. If only I had caller ID.

I don't like talking on the phone either. I only answer my mobile to known people and I never talk to strangers. If I can avoid answering the phone then I will Even at work.
Even if a repair man says they will call at 6pm on Friday then I am too nervous to answer it.

I don't exactly jump on the phone at work when it rings, and only answer it at home if I know it's my brother. I'm getting a bit better with it and forcing myself to pick up at work every now and again. I'm not sure why I don't like it, I think it might be because I'm afraid of not understanding the person who is calling, or mishearing them and sounding foolish.

I hate answering the phone too. I have caller id, so I only answer it if it's someone I'm close to, either immediate family or friends.

If I could cancel my voice plan, I would. I never answer the phone. People have pretty much gotten the message, though they most likely think I hate them. I just prefer not to hang out with anybody 99% of the time, and I feel bad that they think I hate them but I can't tell them anything.

I feel ya. I personally had a manager from head office phone me saying that I have to get back at them tomorrow. I'm a little nervous about that. I most likely have to write down what I will say on the phone because i tend to jumble words around or just blank out on the spot. I'm more comfortable in using the phone sometimes where no one is looking or with me being at a different room or with no one around. I need to be at a certain positive upbeat mindset too. I guess we put lots of pressure on ourselves sometimes. Hopefully we all get better with phone conversations.

I saw something for a tmobile phone plan, a prepaid phone, that was 15 bucks a month for unlimited text messages and then 10 cents a minute for calls. I was like, holy crap... that is SOOOO perfect for me.

I hate answering the phone too! Usually I just hit silence or ignore and then I'll toss my phone gently across the room and then not touch my phone for awhile.

I am able to answer the phone if I have to... like if an employer is calling to schedule an interview, or calling about a job, or if the car place is calling about an appointment. Mostly because I know I HAVE to answer those, and there's absolutely no way around it. Also, if I don't answer I will have to call them back, which is so much worse.

honestly this is going to sound silly but for me it all depends on the ringtone, if the ringtone is high pitch and loud then it initially shocks me when i first hear it ..

if the ringtone was something funny or more low pitch and calmer then i'd probably be more likely to answer more often.

I freeze up too when the phone is ringing. But I do answer the phone.
It's just anxiety about who is calling me, but when I hear the voice I get relaxed, but depends who he or she is :p

I used to have major issues with answering the phone. My rule about that for myself was to answer the phone as soon as it began ringing, no matter what. That way, not matter how uncomfortable I felt, I was forced to interact with whoever it was on the line. It was hard, but once I got in the habit of always answering the phone, it got a little easier. I also pretend that I'm acting sometimes, and I pretend to be some hypothetical confident, outgoing person who knows how to be friendly with strangers.

There was a day where I work, the lady who pick up the phone was sick for three days and I had to answer the phone like 20 times that day, I had serious headache later that day ::(:

Im fine with answering phones but I generally like to be alone when I do hate ppl watching me and listening in LOL

I'm the same. Whenever I talk on the phone when people are around I usually go into another room and close the door if I can. (cordless phone)

Even with Caller ID on my phone I panic, especially when it's a friend because I never know what to say. I'll just let it ring and if my friends ask me later why I haven't been answering I'll just make some excuse like my phone was disconnected or I wasn't home and all that nonsense.
