Finally After long years of trying to understand what's wrong with me & why i can't make eye contact with people i found the culprit.
it was the single cause for my depression, social anxiety & bad eye contact.

it may sound stupid, but Apparently i had a Foreign object (piece of metal) in my cornea that sat their for at least 12 years, and ruined my eyesight since i was 8 years old.

so now 4 days after the eye doctor pulled it out, even though i'm half blind at the age of 21 and my damaged eye took an horrible shape over the years,
i can honestly say my anxiety of being in social places is completly gone! for the first time in my life i actually feel happy when i have to go outside :D

I'm happy for you that you feel fine in social places. Too bad of your eye though. ::(: Vision is priceless. ;) Being happy in social places is too. ;) Nice name btw.

This is great news that you are feeling better! How did the piece of metal get there?

i dunno! it probably happened when i was a kid and my parents never took me to an eye doctor, so it just stayed there and ruined my eyesight ::p:

i don't blame them though, they both have 6/6 vision so they never went to an eye specialist etc'.

I'm just glad i got my old life back :)

congratulations! and im sorry also that youve lost some vision, but I cant understand why this metal in you eye stopped you from making eye contact if you didnt know it was there? or have I missed something? were you in pain?

Hey dude, good to hear :). Sorry about your eyesight. If it helps, I'm pretty blind myself (and never had any sort of metal stuck in my eye either :p)

Good point, If you weren't aware of the piece of metal and didn't feel pain then how can you say that stopped you from making eye contact? Btw congrats on it being removed! =)

That would be pretty amazing, Never say never... Although I'd like it to be something else and not a piece of metal in my eye, something like a little hair maybe lol

i did feel the pain, since i was 9 years old i frequently rubbed my eyes but i never told my parents or anyone about the pain, because i had it for so long i thought it was "normal". although kids always asked me why i keep rubbing my eyes all the time ::p:

about the eye contact thing... i can't really explain it... eye contact for me always seemed awkward (which was the main source of my SA) and usually when i looked at people i couldn't understand what they were saying, which also led to my ADD diagnosis.

now i actually enjoy making eye contact with people (although i know my eyes looks bad), and for the first time in years i can easily maintain comfortable eye contact with people for more then 10 seconds!

I'm so pissed at my self right now for quitting highschool...
i just can't believe that silly piece of metal was the culprit to all of my problems ::(:

How did the piece of metal end up only affecting your ability to maintain eye contact with people? What would happen when you went to look someone in the eye, as opposed to... looking at your keyring before opening the door? Had this had an effect on your reading abilities as well?
