Yet another one joins the crowd

Hello. :)

I've been a lurker here for some time now, but I thought I'd finally register and take a more active part.

I'm a 25-year-old girl from Finland, and I've had social anxiety since I was around 13. It started in high school (or the Finnish equivalent to it), because I started getting bullied. I had been before as well, but it got much more severe. I was alone, hated/ignored, bullied and lost my teenage years. You know the story.
I have a speech impediment (a lisp, and problems with other letters too), and this is definitely a huge part of my problems. I feel worthless, disgusting and that I have no future, because I can't speak properly. I'm afraid of talking to people, and assume they hate/make fun of me.

Anyway, I hope that wasn't too depressing to read. It'll be nice to interact with people who actually understand and know what I'm talking about. The people here seem friendly. :)

Oh, and I like playing computer games, reading, drawing and animals.

Hi, welcome! :) You're not worthless; hopefully you will find it easier to accept yourself a little more after interacting with so many other people just like you.

Good on you for registering here - it's even better when you feel involved.

Hey Nala & Welcome! :)

(Do you like reading fantasy books? :))

Have you thought about going to a speech therapist maybe? I've been to one 'as a grownup' (about your age) and she was really wonderful!! :) (I didn't go to the first one they sent me to, didn't really click with her, but the next one was really awesome!!)

Sorry to hear about what you had to go through... Hope things get better for you and I'm sure you are a much more caring and lovely person because of what happened to you!!

Thank you for the friendly welcome! (And "kiitos" to phocas. ::p: )

Feathers: Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are one of my favourite books. I'm afraid I don't read much fantasy apart from those! But I love Stephen King and horror.
And I have thought about speech therapy, but I've been too afraid/ashamed of going... I've convinced myself it won't help.

Hey Nala, and welcome! I'm sorry about what those b***ards did to you, but try to let it go now. Those who hurt you are gone now and can't hurt you anymore, so move on from it, like they probably have. You are not worthless and you do have a future, all you have to do is fight for it. You have the strength to do it, so it's time to use it! Break through any walls that your speech impediment or your fear would bring before you!
If you were looking for friends, then you've come to the right place! So, once again, welcome and let's have some fun okay:D?

Hey Nala, I thought you chose your name from a fantasy book :) But that's okay if you didn't
I like LOTR and HP too!! :)

Do try to get some speech therapy, if it still bothers you, see if you click with the person offering it - I actually had a pretty great experience and totally recommend it!! (was very embarassed first too, but when I gathered strength and went it was all very pleasant!!)

If it doesn't bother you that much, maybe just accept and 'embrace' it? maybe other people think of it as 'cute' or even 'sexy' who knows??
(Sometimes kids tease each other if they really fancy each other yikes!! Luckily, most grown-ups know better!!)

Do you want to be a TV anchor or radio host? Otherwise, speech is usually not *that* important! for example if you're a designer/illustrator or vet/working with animals or such... There are even some great singers with speech impediments!!

Hehe, I stole my name from The Lion King. :)

I've just... accepted my speech impediment as a part of me that will always make me worthless, and a lesser being. I've given up about it, in a way.

Maybe I'll muster up the courage to see a therapist one day, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. :/

Hi, Nala. *waves
It's very nice to meet you. You sound like a very awesome person (judging by your taste in fiction). I'm pretty new myself. Hope to get to know you.
