Ahhhh funny you ask this, I posted this question on Yahoo Answers and got tons of responses within 5 minutes! haha
Most of them said they prefer the hot girl with confidence issues.
Well, i'm shallow, and a challenge isn't such a bad thing, And helping someone i loved, or cared for, would feel great. So attractive with self esteem issues

Definitely average looking with confidence. I don't want any drama.
There's more to it than just that.
It's pretty hard to come across a girl who has zero self-esteem issues. Most of the time it's not something impossible to deal with.
Amazing confidence, on the other hand, can be intimidating and hard to relate to. I don't think I could relate to a girl like that. I would find that sort of person in general difficult to be around.
So you add on top of that the idea of the one you can deal with more easily is also more attractive, and yeah, most people will pick that first one I think.

I think most of the guys here would choose the attractive girl with self esteem issues, because she'd be easier to relate to. I'm not sure about the rest though..
Oh girls, please don't think I'm saying these are the qualities i look at. But I'm answering the question, Just felt like i had to make that clear

I agree with Nate and Vamp and I think the question is very wide and relative... To me the image reflected by the statement "very attractive with self esteem issues" evoke someone mysterious, withdrawn but interesting, with a lot to discover from. The average one with loads of confidence sounds uninteresting to me. On the other hand, the average one with self-esteem issues still sounds more interesting to me than the attractive one with loads of confidence. So I think this question is kind of irrelevant and badly formulated. It's all a matter of personnality in the end, and the personnality doesn't stop with the look and confidence level....
I find very attractive the girls than my friends rate as average looking. Aslo depends on what she likes (and what she hates) and what are her beliefs. But in a scenario where the only differences between them are the looks and the confidence, I must say I really don't know, because I've never dealed deeply with women, with or without confidenece.

I would think this would be the case as well.
But I have seen guys who have said one of the top things they look for in a girl is confidence. It was in one of those stupid girly magazines though, like Cosmo or something. Probably written by an ugly overly-confident woman

Confidence is attractive. To me anyways. Personality. INTELLECT. I want a smart girl, I mean someone more interested in the world. Nothing is more unattractive to me than a clueless girl who may be a knockout but knows all about Snooky but doesn't know who the frakin Vice President is. Not even intelligence that's just being aware.
I am not going to pretend looks arent a big factor of course they are, but looks ARE enhanced big time when you get to know/like someones personality, intellect, spirit, blah blah. In RL happens always, besides attraction is also in eye of beholder thus.
So looks are NOT everything. Attraction is more than JUST looks. And can change, better or worse.
