Supermarket

Do you like to go when it's off-peak

When there's nobody around?

Only because it means I can checkout more quickly (though they will often reduce it to one lane when its quiet), otherwise I enjoy being around people in a situation where you dont have to interact until you checkout. Its a good place for people-watching; catching snippets of conversation; studying the eating habits of the species; wondering why they have such strange products - like minty-mocha coffee creamer

I don't like going at all, but when I do I like going when there are few enough people that if I don't know what I'm doing no one will notice, but enough people so that the clerks are not stalking and staring at me.

yeah, and UNPACKAGED!! :)

YAY YOU GO Phocas!! I hope you find some nice places with GREAT food!! It was a really great memory to go to the farmer's market as a little girl already...

Or some cities have options to order 'eco food' (in a box) and they bring it to you on a bicycle! weekly (Okay, some not with a bicycle, but it's eco and sometimes cheaper than on farmer's market too!)

we have this in the U.S.:

Community Supported Agriculture - LocalHarvest

you buy a "share" - and you get fresh, locally grown, organic produce and eggs delivered to your home each week - or sometimes you have to go pick it up at the farm or a drop-off point

there are a number of farms near me that do this

I signed up this year

I don't go into any supermarkets as I can't handle being in the crowds. I do all my food shopping online and get it home delivered.

I don't mind supermarkets as long as they're not really crowded. I'd still rather go to health food stores and farmer's markets though. Thankfully where I live, during the summer there are a ton of farmer's markets nearby so I hardly have to go to the store except to only get basics (milk, etc.).

I don't really like going shopping at all. The worst part (for me anyway) is when you are actually being served - I'm usually ok with the cashier, but I feel everyone in the queue behind me is looking at me ::(: I never get a lot of shopping in one go - I tend to do a couple of trips a week and just get a handful of items each time. That way I spend less time at the checkout. I sometimes use the self-service tills now. I also try and "hang around" the shop until the checkouts are quiet/empty. One of my local supermarkets also has several attractive cashiers - which can be a good and bad thing. If it's quiet then I will sometimes talk to the cashier, but if it's busy then I go back into my shell ::eek::

I don't have a problem going when there's people, but I do prefer going at night - especially because they've just restocked everything and nothing's run out :D

Not too empty because then everyone is looking at you. Not too full because then I almost panic. So somewhere in between when everyone is minding themselves.

YAY Coyote, so you ARE eco!! :) /swoon!!/

Phoenixx, can't you get (organic) milk from a farmer directly? You live in cow country, no?
Or a milk-o-mat? (where you can pour it into your own bottle?)

It took us a while to source organic milk, and some of it is still non-organic, but we get it local, directly from farmers..

^ I'm actually allergic to cow's milk, lol. But there are a TON of dairy farms around here were you can get it organically, and I wish my family would take advantage of that, but they like the store bought stuff. :p I should've stated that I drink vegan milk alternatives, my apologies. The milk I've been drinking lately is almond milk. It's really nice. :)

Ah, okay, understood now... You can also get almonds and DIY you know? :) Might be more cost-effective, depending on how much you drink.. (and less PACKAGE! :))

Yeah, I can't understand some of my relatives either - they have cows and drink store-bought milk, sigh!! It also depends what the cows are fed with etc. (Some kiddies were allergic to milk of cows fed with certain feed, and not to others who were grass-fed!!)
And it depends on whether someone is actually up to the milking biz (old ones too old, young ones don't wanna bother yikes.. and the doctors told them to give store-bought milk to kiddies?? *sigh*)

Anyway, our supermarkets have way too much food from all over the world, I totally prefer local!! :)

I don't know if we could grow almonds though, hehe...

^ Yeah I've heard of ways that you could make your own almond milk, but I've never tried it. I should sometime though. I'd think it'd be fun! And cheaper for sure! Interesting how some kids are allergic to milk depending on what the cows were fed. It definitely makes sense, but that's not my case. If only it was. It'd make things a lot easier.
