Self-righteous person

I'm sure this will sound trivial but it's really bothering me. I don't get much social interaction so online is the only way for me to speak to people.

I don't play video games that much but there is one franchise that I am really into at the moment: Assassin's Creed. Anyway, I post on the official forum. Somebody posted a thread about things that they were disappointed about in the current game and I replied with things that I was disappointed in. Some Dutch guy starts flaming me that by complaining I am not showing the people who made it the respect that they deserve. Bearing in mind I have spent good money to purchase their product I believe I have the right to leave feedback. I wasn't rude, abusive, vitriolic or offensive but he tells me that I should be respectful in the way I say it (like I say, I hadn't been offensive or anything). I replied by saying "and what way should that be?" and he replied by saying "with humility [highlighted in bold], don't speak as if you are the majority" and then went on to condescend me by quoting the dictionary as to what humility means. When I argued he accused me of doing nothing but complaining all over the forums (which is untrue I have only complained in that one thread) and to leave the rest of the forums alone.

Now every post (positive or negative) I make he finds a reason to argue with me about it (not just me; anybody who says anything remotely negative about the game gets reprimanded by him; he's not even a moderator; he's more of a crusader; he directs people's posts to which thread they should be in instead). It's his way or know way.

I accused him of intellectual chauvinism and he simply replied by saying "incorrect use of the word chauvinism". At another point I made a typo by accidentally putting an apostrophe in the wrong place and he quoted me just to correct my improper use of an apostrophe. And it is impossible to win an argument against him. I feel that I have beaten him in arguments many times only for him to accuse me of something to win the argument by completely making something up. There is no opinion allowed unless it is his.

The thing that really annoys me is that the rest of the forum supports him with comments like "you tell 'em" or "that'll learn em'" and it justs encourages him. I have reported many of his posts but the mods do nothing because he is such a valued member of the community. He is on this forum all day as well. He only joined last month and he has already made 6,400 posts. He drives me up the wall.

Apologies for the rant he has made me feel so stressed though .

Ah, I've heard of this before.

It sounds like this person has come down with the "forumdouchebaggerous". It's a very common disease that is contagious to small minds, and has been known to spread like wildfire within online gatherings.

I wouldn't even acknowledge his posts. Keep posting as you would normally and act like he's not even there. Eventually he'll stop when he sees he can't get a reaction from you.

I can't stand armchair knuckelheads.

Some people are just bullies/jerks. I had the same exact thing happen to me on a Mazda Miata forum. Every time I posted, he would find something to belittle about me. Just block him, put him on the ignore list, and keep on enjoying Assassin's Creed. Nothing is perfect.

I love Assassin's Creed 1-3. Haven't played 4 yet, still too expensive for me. I love free-running and stealth kills.

Of course, for some reason I didn't even thinking about the ignore button but he's on it now ::p:.

I also loved the first three games. AC2 is my fave, with the newest one my second fave. Do you have a favourite?

One month? 6400 posts?

It makes me feel quite well-adjusted.

I've got a copy of AC1, but I do not have a computer that can play it without freezing. Bummer

Forgot to mention that he also told me that his hobby is to tell people that they're wrong...so annoying.

You should be celebrating the fact that you (and indeed anyone who isn't a complete cave-dwelling sociopath) has way more of a life than him.

I hate to draw to conclusions, but I feel that it's safe to say that this guy has no life. He sounds insecure and in an attempt to cover it up he has decided to take up the role of the resident grammar Nazi on the forum. It looks like he wants to argue, so arguing with him might just encourage him further.

It's his way or know way.

It's his way or no way.

...

Just kidding. ^^;

Well I'm more of a Prince Of Persia fan myself. The games are similar (the latest PoP game has the AC platforming engine) and I can understand why you like Assassins Creed. :) Is this a forum by Ubisoft?

Anyway I signed up to a specific interest forum a while back. It was about urban structures and design. I spent one day on it, made a few posts and realized that it was filled with people, like the one you have encountered. There were so many people there who would not accept someone else having an opinion different to them. I commented on one particular structure, as it was my favourite. I got slated just because most other people didn't find it that great a structure. I mean, can't I have my own opinion on what I might like?

I read other posts and I saw too much bickering and complaining. One poster having a go at another, each one convinced they are right. I never use it since.

I get enough of that at home!!! ::p: Just ignore him if I were you. I can understand why it is very annoying though. there's this supposed "support" site i used to post on. There is one particular person who uses hate speech but no one is willing to ban him. i get the feeling he took pleasure in making his posts known to me, as I am from the group he hates so much. he's one of the reasons I left.

I was actually gonna start a thread about the animosity shown on the internet. I mean if one is just willing to look at the comments on YouTube, it's just makes one sick of living in this world.

I know, I don't understand why people have so much hate in them.
