Privacy is none existant , its scary :(

Just been horrified to find out all my google searches have all been documentated onto googles evil database!
So in the future a potential employer could buy all this information and go through it!
My Emails , My Youtube account. Eevvveeerything , scary.
pretty scary stuff. Im not even safe in my own home :S.

I've had the same freak out a while ago. Now, the first step is you take yourself off FB - they say it is impossible or at least very difficult to do, don't believe it, I guess it's just a hoax to make you stay. It's actually pretty easy and I don't think they'll keep the records for ever (just think about it, it'd be an insane amout of work.)
Next step: don't take yourself so seriously! Even if you've searched for some ****ed up stuff, know that probably you're not the only one. Everyone is curious and everyone has their secrets. I also wouldn't be happy if others found out about some of the stuff I googled, but at the end of the day I just say f.uck it. Don't care. Can't live in fear. We're all gonna die anyways. (That's by the way my last argument for or against anything, all the time.)

take Oscarwilde's advice - don't take yourself/etc so seriously.

My brother went thru this phase where he was preparing for the end of the world (Dec 21st) he stocked up on everything imaginable.

At first my reaction was WTF, etc...but I chilled and figured out about once a year someone comes along and tells us it's the end of the world. It's all a conspiracy. lol

I have felt the same way you have with privacy issues as well, and yes it does appear we have no privacy what so ever. But I suppose it was bound to happen. I've done some crazy google searches online, etc., but keep a low profile and try not to worry so much about it - I am sure if one digs enough, we ALL have stuff we are doing the facepalm

I try not to worry by remaining as ignorant as possible about the topic. It's probably a stupid idea.

Im aware these things can be documented but I for one dont really care. Im not one of those people that carelessly post filthy or promiscuous party photos or any of that stuff (not saying you do, just an example). If they were to trace my searches right now they would see "kool and the gang" "BBC news" "do cats have molars?" "whats the capital of moldova?" ::p:

Back when I was in grade 6 and hadn't touched a computer yet-- my home room teacher had a long conversation about privacy issues on the internet.
It was a very serious thing back then and even moreso now; and it's something that most people don't think twice about.

Everything you put on the internet- ever- even for 2 seconds; is there forever.
Maybe you can't see it anymore but the information is there.
So, just don't post things willy-nilly if you ever plan on becoming a CEO one day.

My brother hasn't realized that yet-- and his facebook especially IS a big problem. He goes out every night and parties and posts photos of himself with his pants down and looking drunk and silly; and then wonders why he gets fired a week after he finds a job.
Employers check those sorts of things.
Swearing every other word and talking about how drunk you are constantly will not help anyone get a job or look more mature or reliable-- it will only prove to do the opposite even if it's untrue.

OK, no offence but I don't think anyone really cares that much what you (or anyone else for that matter) types into google. Youtube, facebook, email accounts and browsing history can all be deleted permanently (all of which I have done successfully). Also, if you do not wish for anyone to be able to track your online presence make sure you use different usernames and avatars for all of your accounts. Oh and obviously don't use your real name for anything. If you have to, use an alias when filling out online forms (unless it's something really important).

I pissed someone off on a forum once, and so they googled my username and found a bunch of stuff they could use against me, which they did. They made a bloody topic about me! So, try not to use the same username all over the web. It could come back to haunt you!!
