My life changing plan

So I thinking of having my computer taking away from me by my sister for about 3 to 4 weeks (and possibly more) because I keep spending all my time on it and I have zero control over it.

I have been living online for 11 years and I can see how it took a toll on my health: wrist issues, arm, neck, back, chest pain, stiff knees, poor posture, porn addiction, isolation. My right arm is often so much in pain that I have to use my left arm to let it rest. Doctors already warn me but I never listen. Using a mouse and a keyboard all day long almost everyday is just not worth sacrificing my body.

I will still access to internet, but from my phone, my ps3 or my parent's computer. It will help me limit the time I spend online without losing my mind. My phone as a decent browser and I'm usually on my bed when I use it, I doubt I could spend the whole day using it cause it's not the fastest thing around. The ps3 browser isn't that great and don't see myself using it much or at all. I won't be using my parent's computer much since I don't want to raise any suspicion on their part. Plus there is almost always someone near the computer so I won't be able to watch inappropriate things.

The only times I can ask for my computer is when there is a wrestling pay per view.

It's most likely gonna be the hardest thing I ever have to do and i see a lot of frustrating days ahead, but the goal of this is to let my body heal and relax. I also want to try to do 90 days like that. Hopefully I'll develop a few good habits along the ways

If I was to start this it would be around june 11. So what do you guys think?

hello,

i believe its gonna be very hard, and situations will come were you will go nearly hopeless crazy, but i find it very good from you that you try to change yourself and got the courage to make the first step. I wish you good luck with your mission.

I went into computer detox back in highschool after being addicted to WoW.
haha

It'll be hard- you'll be bored but it's definitely a good idea.
Fill your time with constructive things! You'll be shocked at how much free time you really have-- you can fit ALOT into one day!

It sounds like a pretty good plan, but it's definitely gonna be tough. I understand though. I already have carpal tunnel in my right arm pretty bad already (it comes and goes however), and because of that I've been starting to use my left hand for everything and pretty much training myself to be more ambidextrous rather than using my right hand for every single thing.

I wish you all the best. Good luck! :)

I don't think it's gonna work. You're a computer otaku. You're using your computer to escape something. Since there is nothing wrong with using a computer, your plan is not healthy in my opinion. Your plan is radical. Radical changes often fail or create unwanted distortions. Your plan doesn't solve your real problem, the problem that is inside of you, your reason for using a computer so excessively. It's better to learn how to use the psychological approach to define your problems while you're still young. I see a lot of older people who have never done that and when they struggle, they take unhealthy paths to mask their problems, only they're not aware of what they're really doing.

To cure SA, you have to change the inside. External, visible changes will do nothing long-term. Same thing with your porn addiction.

I think a radical change would be to simply avoiding going online all together, which would be impossible. This is more like a slight modification on how I go online. Also my sister isn't gonna let me get the easy way out either, that's why I went to her. I also got a new full time job ( starting next monday), so even less time to spend online.

I'm not trying to beat SA or my porn addiction that way, I tried it before and I know it doesn't work. I simply want to let my body heal from all the damage I did to it. Unfortunately for me I don't see any other way to do it.

Thanks though I always prefer honest opinion than sugar coating

Things will be hard at first but then things will get a lot easier. Just keep in mind that it won't always be really hard when you are feeling like giving up. You can totally do this and it will be so worth it.

Sometimes the only change you can make is radical. You have to strip off the band aid and throw away the crutch to learn how to walk on your own. When you face your demons instead of crushing them down with your addictions, you will be more prepared to face them and over come them.

Good job man.

I hope you will go through with this and find a renewed energy and curiosity for life. Computer sucks up way too much of our mental energy. It should be just work only, and ocassionaly leisure time for a limited time a day.

With me, I have to work on the pc, and also have to look up stuff for reference pictures or inspiration. But I always divert from my initial goals let my mind wander off on the internet. I should really be more disciplined and just NOT surf any more.

But internet is an "escapism" for me that makes me not want to face the challenges in my life. It's really bad for people with SA/depression/AVP. f I took that away, I would probably escape in other ways. But who knows. Maybe eventually I would get so bored that I would start getting productive.

So I decided to do it like this. My sister will take the keyboard and I'm gonna bookmark the sites I use to watch my shows and that's it. I won't be able to write any other sites or chat using my computer. I'm thinking about starting today too since my left arm is starting to hurt as much as my right.

A really good plan. I envy you to even consider it. But I don't know if removing the keyboard is the best way. Isn't there some administrational way that makes the computer shut off automatically at a certain hour? If your sister get's the password, then there's nothing you can do about it.

Do you have a plan what to do when you're not sitting at the computer?

Good luck in any case.

Removing the keyboard works because I limited my browser to sites that I bookmarked. With no keyboard I can't go on other sites. So if i'm not watching a show there is no point for me to be on it.

No plan, I still spend most of my time online, but in a more comfortable position, I move a bit more. I still have a few games to finish also I start a new job tomorrow and that will occupy most of my time.
