^I understand completely. But kitties are just like people (yes, JUST like people! ) and they come in all different types and personalities. It takes some time and patience to learn how to interact with them in a way that they find acceptable.
Sorry, I'm like the kitty guru over here. I just like 'em, and I respect them immensely as individuals. (That sounds weird, but I will never retract that statement. :

That's very true. She certainly does have her own personality (felinality?) that's different to my last cat. I will get used to it. Already am, really.

So I'm patting my cat today and more of those "love bites" came out. She's drawing blood and I've got at least 8 scratches from her sharp teeth. This can't be normal behaviour, surely. Should I smack her or something if she continues doing it?

NO. Don't smack her. Just don't pet her. The smacking will only make her fearful and not want to be touched at all by anyone.

I don't necessarily recommend yelling at cats, but otherwise this is a pretty good article and may give you some tips on how to deal with it.

No, you shouldn't hit an animal. You can yell though. They may not understand words, but they can understand tone and will know if you're mad. Hopefully she'll learn...but then, she might just do it anyway. You can try.
