Fictional characters you can relate to.

Every so often when I'm reading or watching something I think.. wow.. they could be me.. they're almost telling my story, or are speaking my thoughts verbatim. I recently read Notes from Underground and in places, honestly.. it feels like they're thoughts taken directly from my head. In a way, I find it quite comforting.

Are there any fictional characters in literature, film, television etc. that you particularly relate to?

There is this squid character on this cartoon I watch. I feel I have some things in common with him, but his name escapes me:). Anyway, I watched a movie called Willard the 2003 one, and I felt the main character was based on me.

Ooh I like this thread. :D Let's see...

I can definitely kind of relate to Hermione Granger (from HP obviously). Loves learning and is reading constantly, isn't very girly, and can be a bit shy. Not to mention we both have frizzy hair. :p She's more talkative than I am though and a lot smarter, plus she's a total badass. ;]

Sam Winchester from Supernatural is another one. He's always figuring things out, great at searching and hunting down answers, also constantly reading and is very studious, mostly quiet and keeps to himself (although he isn't exactly shy), he's sensitive of others and will speak his mind when he has to. I don't exactly wear my heart on my sleeve, rather I tend to bottle things up, but he has those moments too. He also has this dark side of himself he doesn't like to show nor dwell on. I know there's a lot more to it, even if it's rather fictional because of the storyline, but part of that "darkside" is intense anger, sadness, loneliness, and just a jumbled up mess. I can definitely relate to most of how he feels sometimes.

Kerry Hennessy from 8 Simple Rules is probably my fictional character high school/teenage alter ego. Even out of all the books I've read and tv shows/movies I've watched, she's probably the most relatable to me. She's short, like me. She can be incredibly sarcastic and has dry humor, like me. She's extremely introverted, gets annoyed with other people easily (especially her siblings), is another character who always reads (I like people who read, okay?), and she's smart, like me. Oh and I love animals just about as much as she does. The things she gets upset over are pretty much the exact things I got upset over in high school too (and I still feel like this sometimes) -- no one liking me, was never pretty, getting teased, being used by kids just for being smart, being jealous of my sibling because they were better liked and were better looking, being too shy and quiet, etc.

Edit: Added pretty pictures. :p

Oh I got two more.

Faye Whitaker and Marigold Farmer from Questionable Content (web comic). I can definitely relate to Faye because she's so snarky and is a bit of a tomboy. She's curvy too and I totally understand whenever she makes a comment about her hips and curves. :p

I can relate to Marigold too since she's very geeky and extremely shy (possibly SA?). She's never had a boyfriend, always blushes when she talks to people she doesn't know and is easily embarrassed, totally awkward, has almost zero self-confidence, loves reading comics (Well manga. I like comics, no manga for me though), loves video games, and is an all around complete introverted indoorsy chick.

Edit: Also added pretty pictures.

angela (my so-called life)
awkward, searching for something...

Arthur Dent (duh) and his proverbial bad luck.

I relate to Bernard Marx as well. I wonder if I only dislike society because i'm not really part of it.

Menoly from Anne McCaffrey's Harper Hall Trilogy. Her parents reminded me a bit of mine, only a bit more physical and less emotional than mine were. She was a bit of an oddball, considered a bit on the homely side, kind of a tomboy, loved music, wrote, and went through a phase where it looked like she'd have to give up her passions altogether because of her physical and circumstantial limitations.

Hermione Granger from Harry Potter is another one I can see myself in. She's a bit awkward and desperate to prove herself, but she doesn't really have any clue how to go about it. She takes solace in books and can't stand not to be learning something new. Most of her friends were guys, and she didn't really give too much of a care to wasting precious time fighting nature. She was strongly pulled to stick to the rules, but she craved adventure anyway.

The Ugly Ducklin.... nah...

I can relate to that movie prince and the frog or something. That girl who is ambitioned and doesn't wanna live just a lazy life, she wants to do something great and laugh. So she goes after her dreams, and her lover is with her too, fantastic dream of acceptance and happiness.

Andrew Detmer from the movie Chronicle. I was actually surprised how much I felt connected to this character when I saw this film. While I don't have an abusive father at home to deal with thankfully, I did get treated in a similar way as he did in school. The teasing, name calling, feeling like a complete outcast, and watching all those things eat away at him, it was hard to watch because you do get angry and depressed over those things, over the people who do that to you. I'm not sure if he had social anxiety at all, but he definitely was an introvert and was extremely shy. He didn't like parties and he'd rather spend his nights keeping to himself and doing what he wants to do.

Really sad how his character developed through the film though. Horrible ending for him.

Some really interesting choices, awesome.

I don't have a pretty picture (they all seem to be pretty grim depictions) but I guess I really relate to the Nightingale from The Nightingale and the Rose. Someone just reminded me of that story.

Michael Scott

I think he had social issues. He tried his best to make people like him, make friends and do good for people but he often came off wrong and you could actually feel for him at times.
