Father issues

I'm sorry :(

I never liked my dad when I was growing up because he had anger problems and was a huge jerk all the time. He never physically abused us though. He would break things in the house to keep himself from hitting us I guess. He punched holes in the wall. He left in 2001 and I was soooo happy he was gone. It was such a relief. And ever since then we haven't talked besides a few times at family get-togethers (which was never a conversation, just "hi" and then ignore). Haven't seen him since Christmas, and don't plan to.

I don't like my father much either. He's always angry and acting like a jerk to me even when I offer to help with something. He's called me useless before to. I remember that day quite well..

My father has got a problem with alcohol. I live with him in the same flat, but I cannot talk to him. He can't talk to me.

We are strangers to one another. It was never a normal conversation between us. I fear of him. With a mother I have better contact, but no the best. The family is evil. Everyone in my family drink alcohol except me.

My father passed away last May. He was always supportive me. My parents were the best people in the world. Compared to them the world of people is a mixed up, dysfucntional mess.

Trouble is wasn't exposed to what a ****full place the world of people can be, until I went to high school. My parent's upbringing never prepared me for that hell.

My dad is a good hard-working guy. He always had his angry spells but it wasn't a problem or anything. For some reason i just stopped talking to him even while i was still living with him. It's not that I hate him or anything it's probably that i'm just ashamed at what i have become.

I never met my real father. So my grandfather got the title of "dad*
I had a stepfather who was like Jeykll and Hyde, my mom divorced him, now I have another stepfather, he's pretty cool but Im 29yrs old so he's more like a friend to me, its hard to see him as a father figure. I mean sometimes instead of saying my stepfather I say my mom's husband.

That brings up an interesting question to me... do you really believe that if your parents weren't as wonderful as they were, would you be better off in life generally?

Interesting thread...

Oh gosh, it seems some people have even way bigger father problems/issues..!! And some fathers just seem... uhm??

I don't hate my dad, although I did when I was little.. (sometimes) The pressure for grandkids is yikes, yup..

Interesting to think maybe having wonderful parents (and then losing them) could be even more difficult for a person.. It is like I heard when people went to some very good schools (Waldorf or some other alternative schools I think) and then went to camps or other 'usual' schools, it was a big 'culture shock' for them...
Maybe it's good to have some relatives who can 'prepare' you a bit? Or to at least have people to talk to about things?
It's odd to think that maybe fighting with my sis, or bickering/arguments with parents could actually 'prepare' me for real world.. hmm? Maybe it's true, yeah.. At least partly.. The trick is to find proper balance, hmm..

My dad is a jerk. Just that, and he doesn't know it either. He is just so strange, I can't explain it. He always does the weirdest things. I'm not going to say he is the reason for anything, because I don't know that. He is just unpredictable from one moment to the next and can be such a liar. Right now I just try to avoid him, so I don't have to listen to his three hour rants and such.

My father died last month. I hadn't seen him in years. I'm so angry at him for not being a decent human being or caring about my brother and me. I'm angry at myself for not going to see him before it was too late. I'm angry that now nothing will ever be fixed.

To be honest Dronee, I might be worse off than I am now, I might have committed suicide, seriously. I think the only thing that saved me from the hell I went through in high school, was my parents providinf a place I could at least feel safe in at the end of each school day.
