Does internet help us?

It is a double edged sword. It did help me to begin with, I found this place. Although it does have a lot of major down sides. It has caused paranoia within my own marriage and arguments that I spend more time online than doing anything else.

It depends on the way it is used. The internet is a great tool, resource, and outlet, but like anything if it's used incorrectly it doesn't fulfill it's purpose. How it should be used depends on the person I think as well, but in general the more things one has going om outside the internet the more useful the internet can be to a person. I mean if you spend 8 hours a day on the internet, but have a lot of other things going on during your other waking hours, the internet can be great. Or if you only spend a few hours a day but don't really have much else in your life it can be more harmful I think.

The less major a part of your life the internet is the more useful it can be basically. As long as you're living outside the internet it can be good, otherwise you're lost. It's just a part, and like everything needs to be in moderation and proportion.

I think it can be good and bad.
Good in a way that it lets people practice communicating with different kinds of people. There are all kinds of nice people around to be encouraging and helpful.

Bad in a way that the internet allows self important little girls(and boys) to come around and post garbage at their every whim and fancy. SA might make those types of people harder to deal with and might make SA worse for some.

It definitely has helped me. I am connecting with more SA friends on Facebook. And I grew up before there was so much internet - it was really hard to find information and get answers.

It's helpful because talking to people over the internet is so much easier, but there's a risk of becoming dependent on the internet as your lone source of interaction and giving up on real life interaction since it's less difficult online.

I was just thinking about this same subject last night. I completely agree. You can get too caught up in your internet world and it starts to feel more real than.... well, reality.

I think it helps in the way that we feel relieved that we are not the only people that feel so alone,we can also meet people and get advice. I think the best thing would be a social anxiety support group so we could meet in person in the real world.

Yea I guess it has its downsides, but it definitely helps. Most importantly, It makes you realize you're not alone. I remember when someone on SPW first answered my post. It's a great feeling when you realize that an actual person of flesh and blood feels the way you do.

It can be a blessing and a curse.

It is a way to reach out and communicate to the world in blog and forums, to seek information on a multitude of topics. It can also be a temptation and a risk of being exploited, given that it is like the real world and there are as many people out there trying to take advantage, as there are trying to help you.

I think the Internet is good for people wanting to find out information and chat to people with similar SA issues and whatnot. Also it's good for other things, such as long-distance relationships with family/friends, or finding out about just about anything you can think of.

However, a life outside of the Internet is necessary so you don't get caught in the trap. I will be the first to admit I spend a little bit too much time online, for really no reason, but I don't really have too much of a life so there's nothing else to go to. Haha!

Also, the Internet has made me discover how much porn exists. There's sooooo much porn out there. As a man, I probably shouldn't complain, but seriously. There's way too much.

I think the only way we'd really know is if we didn't have the internet in the world entirely.

Meaning right now, of course. Not the pre-internet era.
