Do animals or people make good companions?

I know this may sound like a stupid and ridiculous question to ask, but are animals or people easy to bond with? I think animals do because you can cherish and love them and interact with them. They don't turn their backs on you or argue with you. I think I would rather buy pets or at least be around pets and play with them rather than wasting most of my time of people from the outside world trying to be friends with them when all they do is hurt my feelings and reject me. I know it sounds harsh, but I think animals are more good natured than some humans. What do you think?

I have two cockatiels. They are the most adorable little psychos and form a close bond with the owner. Very intelligent than compared to most people that I've met.

My sisters Yorkie has a problem with play biting me and I still like it better than most humans I have encountered. Although, I'm not the kind of person that would stop my car for a dog in the street and carry a human on down the road. I'm not a scrooge. Most animals don't care, they just want to play,be cared for, eat, take dumps and sleep. They're animals of course that's all they do, but I don't have to worry about a horrible betrayal.

I have always lived in a house with cats/dogs, all my life.
I personally prefer cats though-- childhood trauma prevents me from feeling compelled to trust dogs that are stronger than me.

Oh-- and my answer is yes. Animals can be perfect companions.

i've had a couple of the smaller size humans

they bond with you rather quickly

but they are noisy and messy and ask lots of questions

generally too much work

Pets are wonderful companions, but I've lived with cats and dogs that ignore me. These days I am adored.

But it doesn't really make up for the lack of friendship.

there are certain activities you can enjoy with a human mate that you can't really do with an animal companion

legally

in most states

I'm not an animal person personally, I really doubt I would want to have anything other than some fishes. I rather have humans

I don't think I could live without at least one pup in my life! They are so loving, don't judge, and are always happy to see me - more than what I get from most humans!

Animals operate on a much simpler level than humans. In general, if you treat them with kindness and respect they will reciprocate. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for a lot of humans. ::(: The downside is that the level of relationship you have with an animal will also be simpler. You can't tell them what kind of a day you've just had (good or bad), you can't ask their advice, you can't share the experience of seeing a piece of art, listening to music by a band you both like or watching the season finale of your favourite TV show with them. You kinda need another human for that stuff...not to mention the stuff that Coyote referred to. :)

I never could understand why people compare these two. It´s like comparing apples and oranges. Animal companionship is great and could even be said that animals are better than humans in their purity and innocence. But it cannot be compared with the companionship of humans because they´re 2 different things. So it´s OK to enjoy the company of animals, but if someone says they regard animals as a substitute for human contact, they seem to have some problem..

I read about soldiers who married native women of the land they fighted in, they were in love with them and saw them as perfect.. but they fell out of love as soon as their wifes learned to speak english :D. The author of the book where I read this thinks that when the men couldn´t understand the women, they projected on them whatever they wanted to see in them. But once they began to speak, they learned that they also have some personality and divorced them.

I agree with it. I guess both are great but in a different way.

I have a dog who is almost two years old now and she has proven to be the most amazing companion that I've always longed for. She's truly my BFF and she brings so much joy into my life, so I'm really thankful to have her. I would like human friends in my life, but since I don't have any human friends, my dog is a great friend for me.

Animals are good friends, but they can't communicate with you a lot... and some of them don't live too long. People can make good companions when you find the right individuals.
