Calling people by their names

If possible I avoid calling people by their names, it feels really awkward and personal somehow

I struggle with this as well. I feel really, really stupid and self-conscious even just addressing someone by name when saying good morning or hi. I try to practice doing it, but it just feels so unnatural to me. But I do appreciate it when other people call me by my name, and I've noticed it does work well to make a conversation more personal.

I always try to greet people using their name, like I do at work. "Hi John." "Hi Nathan." "Hi Tegan." I feel it makes them more useful and wanted and that, in turn, makes me feel better.

Of course, if I forget someone's name, that's where being Australian comes in handy and I can say, "Hi, mate!" :D

I find it very difficult to call anyone by their name, unless they are very close to me. I call most people "umm?" ::(:

I dont mind calling someone by there names but saying things like uncle this or aunt make me feel uncomfortable or weird...let alone one of my aunts and uncles like being addressed as sir and mam and I dont do that anyway though but they never said anything about it but it makes me feel so awkward...

uncomfortable... I'm actually pretty good with names :/
You too? I've never heard of people being uncomfortable with calling people by their names until this thread popped up. I guess it's a little more common than what I had thought (which was non-existent!).

Sorry to hear you're uncomfortable, too. Must be bad when you have to do it. I'm also alright with names, too. :)

I have a severe problem with calling people by their names. I never do it, really. I'm too afraid.
