Because the main character is bisexual and there were some gay characters and some straight ones....kinda like real life? I'm surprised you felt the aliens and supernatural stuff were the believable parts.

Torchwood is a spinoff. Jack (main character) and John (kinda badguy) are just raging bisexuals. They love men, women, aliens....whatever.

There is a strictly homosexual couple though in the show too.
