Acne and SA

I was wondering how big a factor does acne play (for those of you who suffer from it) in your social anxiety? Myself, I've struggled with it since I was a teenager. I'm in my thirties now and it's as bad as it's ever been. I even put a pic up to show it, lol. Not that I go out much anyway, but I'm kind of used to it. Still, it continues to be a huge drag on my vanity and self-esteem. Is it a huge part of your SA? And have you tried any treatments? Has any helped? Let me know. I'd appreciate the feedback. As well as hearing anyone vent about it. :)

Have you tried changing your diet? I suffered from that for the years of my teens and then it was over.. You can try the stuff they sell on TV or try going to a hollistic doctor perhaps.

Hey WeirdyMcGee, mind sharing your makeup routine/products? I'm horrible with makeup. I think my foundation and everything is really noticeable and gross, which also makes me self conscience. Especially when it starts melting off my face from my oilyness.

Ohhh~

Well, I haven't been doing my face up much lately but I have settled on a couple of products that I like to use. My routine takes about 10 minutes to do once my skin has been moisturized to my liking.
I get dry, flaky skin which isn't good when you're applying concealer and foundation-- makes it obvious that you have makeup on overtop of it.
...anyway... I'll skip the million skin cleansing steps for morning, afternoon and night because it's probably not realistic for anyone but me to do.

I start with St. Ives Apricot scrub in the morning, and moisturize my face and neck with St. Ives 'Indulge' (coconut milk and orchid moisturizer) then wait a few minutes for it to absorb fully- then I go over with a tinted moisturizer with spf
Right now, I'm using Clinique city block - 25spf/oil free.

Once that has absorbed, I go under my eyes and over all of my pimples and stress bumps with Maybelline 'age rewind' double face perfector concealer; applied with a concealer brush. (I usually do 2 coats of that-- but I'm not sure if they still sell this double sided stick anymore...)
Then I brush some translucent powder over my closed eyes.

Then, I use Rimmel clean finish foundation all over my face and past my jawline; applied with a big brush and a patting motion.
Once that is done, I use Maybelline 'Fit me' nude beige pressed powder and brush it over everything followed by some 'fit me' light pink blush on my cheeks.

I use some nearly translucent white eyeshadow powder on the inner corners of my eyes and up on my brow bone and as the day goes on and the makeup absorbs a bit more, it looks very natural; even with sweating.
Just make sure your skin isn't dry or flaky at all-- use lots of moisturizer and scrubbing beforehand, if it is.

I get everything I use at Walmart aside from my brushes and the Clinique moisturizer-- my sister gave them to me as a gift, so they were probably bought at Sephora.
I don't have the money to spend on anything fancy, though-- so I buy whatever I can afford at Walmart.

Using a brush to apply liquid foundation has helped alot in terms of how smooth and natural my skin looks afterwards-- so once you've found a product you like that matches your skin tone; try applying it with a brush and a patting motion as opposed to a swooping motion.
Always finish with a powder to lock in the prettiness.
You'll probably have to try alot of products before you find any that you like and you feel work best for you--- and by then, they could be discontinued; so it's just a never-ending search... technique is equally as important, though.

I suggest you watch Cassandra Bankson's video for 'full coverage makeup' on youtube if you haven't seen it already.

Ohhh~

I suggest you watch Cassandra Bankson's video for 'full coverage makeup' on youtube if you haven't seen it already.

I posted one of her videos on this thread. If anyone is interested in watching.

As I wrote to spider, I'm a vegetarian and mindful of what I eat. My diet is pretty ideal. My problem, I think, is hormones. Excess testosterone.

I used to struggle with skin issues back in highschool. I tried everything! Ive been using Murad for years and its been the best thing thats come into my life!

I have clear, perfect skin (knock on wood) lol. you can order it online or buy it at sephora. Also I find that dove works well too. And I also like cetaphil products if Murad is too expensive for ya.

Thanks, shakes! I'll definitely look it up. :D

I used to have horrible acne in high school. It's gotten soooo much better though. I stopped drinking soda and all I drink is water and it cleared my face up. And I stopped using face wash for acne cause I don't think it helped at all. I wear make up sometimes but not much. I'm very happy with how much better it's gotten. Water really does help.

Some of you may know who Cassandra Bankson is, or have seen her videos before. But for those who haven't, they're worth watching. She's a beautiful girl who suffers from severe acne and posts a lot of tutorials on how to manage it. At the very least they're interesting to watch just to know someone so attractive goes through the same things the rest of us do.

I love her! Thanks to her I know how to put make up on. Lol

Yeah that can be something that has to do with with acne when it comes to anxiety try to avoid that as much as you can.
Keep yourself busy with these things so you can stay away from unnecessary tensions.

it contributed to my SA. who can feel confident when there are huge, disgusting cystic nodules protruding from your face and neck? accidentally brush against it? is it bleeding? are people looking at the disgusting scabs? is my makeup flaking off? ugh. there is no confidence when you feel like the first impression you give is dirty, diseased.

CURE ACNE:

1. DO NOT EAT DAIRY!!!!!!
if there is one change you need to make, this is it. no milk. no ice cream. no cheese. no pizza. no lasagna. no recipes that contain dairy products as ingredients. no yogurt. no pouring milk into cereal. dairy = full of hormones = instant-acne!

2. DRINK A TON OF WATER.
all day, everyday. your skin needs water, not dehydrating sodas & sugary fruit juices (this includes gatorade). replace all beverages with water.

3. EAT VEGGIES.
and fruit. your skin needs the nutrients.

4. DO NOT EAT PROCESSED FOODS.
avoid high-sodium & processed foods like just-add-water-instant-"anything", ramen noodles, macaroni & cheese, rice-a-roni, sugary cereals, etc. if it is "food" that comes in a box, it probably will contribute no nutrients, dehydrate your skin, & actually detract from your nutrition.

5. TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN.

6. CLEANLINESS.
obviously, don't touch, keep pillowcases clean, hair out of face. duh, it spreads bacteria, you already know this.

7. TREATMENT.
salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and benzoyle peroxide are your friends. avoid moisturizer if your skin cannot handle it!

most people take steps to fight acne externally but they neglect the other half- fighting it internally. they continue to have acne because they pollute their body, eating the wrong things ("foods")... think of your skin as a flower. flowers don't bloom and thrive in crappy, dry soil that lacks nutrients. you want nice skin, you have to feed it nice things. unfortunately, people with sensitive skin have to be extremely diligent about what they eat and really work for it.

hopefully this helps someone out there who maybe doesn't know better. i didn't for a long time.

I would have to say that between my rosacea (adult acne like pimples and redness) and my hyperhidrosis my level of social anxiety is at an all time high. I hate when people look look at me, but surrounding myself with good people and loved ones helps take my mind off it when i'm out in public.

I eat a healthy diet and like taking supplements/vitamins to help with the sweating and acne. Does anyone have anything out there that they could suggest that has been working for them? thanks!
