How do you feel about your birthday?

It's weird to invite people who you are not too close with. If you feel that you are closer to people you talk to on the internet, so be it. You want to celebrate with people who care and people you share a connection with. I'm fine with just celebrating my birthday with my parents and I'm not too keen on splurging on my birthday. I don't want to eat an unhealthy cake and I probably would more so...eat something normal but get myself something that i need like organic food or natural vitamins or whatever.

My birthday is in 6 days and I am going to treat myself to somethings I have wanted for a very long time.. Yippeeee!
Happy imminent birthday! Mine is close to yours and I'm actually not as dismissive of it as I have been in recent years.

My reason for not "celebrating" my birthday may be a little different from others.

I don't understand the need/desire to celebrate on the same day each year that I am still alive...

I think people misuse too many words nowadays. (Never thought I would be saying that, aged 20)

In my mind at least, celebration should be kept for special events, like getting that raise at work or getting an "A" on your finals. Having a party on set dates every year is boring and it isn't really a celebration of anything anyway.

A birthday is just an excuse to go out drinking and really, who needs an excuse for that anyway?

I turned 30 last year in the midst of all the insanity going on in my life. I took my son and stayed up at my parent's house in Pennsylvania because that is one of the only places I feel safe and happy anymore. I said all I wanted for my birthday was to be left alone. They took my son out for the whole day and I took a xanax, took a nap, and when I awoke, I sat there just staring out at the trees. Not what I always pictured the big 3-0 would be like but it was exactly what I needed it to be.

My Birthday just reminds me of how totally friendless I am in real life and makes me think of past Birthdays when I had a friend or two but ended up losing them due to my SA.

Although there are two things I do love about my Birthday....
1. Cake. (cake makes everthing worthwhile :giggle:)
2. One less year I am forced to live before I can die naturally.

Yeah, this exactly and my family trying to make a big deal out of it always winds me up.

Birthday and New Year's Eve are easily the worst days of the year for me.

My family doesn't even make a big deal out of it. Often they even forget about it.
I hate NYE too. All those days are a big 'look what you haven't got!'

I can honestly say, up until a couple of years ago, I didn't mind getting older. But then one day, I happened to catch a reflection of myself. Even now, it's difficult to talk about. I'm in the prime of my life here. I have sculpted my physique to resemble a Greek Adonis ( Disclaimer: Any resemblance to a Greek Adonis, or a Stud Muffin, is purely coincidental ) and yet, I HAVE HAIR GROWING OUT OF MY EARS. What’s next, will my eyebrows start to grow bushy. I tell ya, it's no fun getting old.

I'm not too worried about that. I am heavily into masking and dollification, which is basically wearing highly realistic face masks and skinsuits so my body will always have the external appearance of youth, no matter my age. You should try it if you are worried about wrinkles or other age-related cosmetic issues.

How do you feel about your birthday?Do you like your birthday?
I personally hate it.First of all because i have almost no friends to invite over ::(: and secondly because everyone is so fake, out of the blue everyone starts to notice you and talk to you and listen to you ,when 1 day ago they wouldn't even say hello to you.I don't even care about gifts ,i just want to spend that day alone.
How about you guys?Am i the only weird one?

I like my birthday but, honestly, since most of the people in my office are younger than me (and I'm not that old), I prefer that it isn't acknowledged at work. It makes me feel like such an old fossil and makes me think I should be doing more with my life.

At home or in other personal places of my life, I'm quite comfortable with my age and the condition I am in right now (well, except for the OCD).

THIS JUST IN: The internet and this forum are real life and I'm sure you have friends here. It's just a matter of making friends with the right people who will understand your SA and what you are going thru.

I may be a random person on the Internet, but you have at least one friend.

Totally right about cake. Could go a piece right now....

Yes, I know I have some terrrrrific friends in here.
What I meant was on my Birthday it reminds me of past "birthday dinners/celebrations" etc that I have had friends (who lived near me) that attended these.
So even though I have great friends in here, they all live so far away it is not practical for them to attend any birthday dinner etc I might have. I should have said that. Sorry for not articulating what I meant properly.:eek:h:

And I do value yours and my other dear friends in here too!:)
As I explained to theoutsider above ^ I meant no friends who can attend a birthday dinner/celebration etc.

No need for apologies. I just wanted to make sure you weren't forgetting to count those of us who really do care. I agree that it's impractical for us to attend your parties and I suppose that's the downfall of the internet. Some of the best people you meet are many miles apart.

I know what you mean. My 21st birthday "celebration" was 14 of us, and almost all were family and neighbours. I didn't like it back then, but these days I don't particularly mind.
