throw things away.

Yeah, I'm a strange cookie.

Let me explain: I have had my 'stuff' in storage at someone's house for a few years and the person just informed me they are losing their house to foreclosure so I need to get my things before they have to move.

Well, I went over there and gathered my things and brought them back home. SIL and brother are nice about it, telling me I can just put the stuff in the garage - no big deal and there is plenty of room in the cubbies upstairs as well.

Cool, that's nice :)

But upon going through some of the boxes, I found myself looking at all the junk I've collected over the years and I've made a few piles:

--throw away
--donate
--give to niece and nephew (stuffed animals/etc)
--give to Bro and SIL
--shred all those papers I've been collecting - seriously, I've killed countless trees with all my paperwork, and for what? Why the heck was I keeping it?
--give Bro and Sister all their school pictures, awards, trinkets they've made in school

LOL, anyhow, you get the picture.

While throwing things away, I noticed such a warm, cozy feeling that arose in me. I just love to throw things away - or give away.

Yes, there are things I do want to keep and are necessary. But aside from that, I really see no use for much of it.

SIL was going, ok but are you sure you want to throw it away?

YES!!!

She meant well; poor thing is a hoarder. Actually looking back on all my 'stuff' I kind of was one too I suppose.

So does it make you feel lighter or good to just toss the old stuff every now and again? Or is it just me and one of my many quirks? :sarcastic:

Yesterday I threw out a ton of papers and vitamins. I was feeling so claustrophobic and disorganized. I never take my vitamins consistently anyway. Now, I'm eating fruits and vegetables so I can get my vitamins naturally with all of the other flavenoid and goodies that come with it.

I like throwing things away, too. I used to be such a pack rat when I was younger, but I've gotten much better with it. I still have a bit of clutter, but I've already gone through it and thrown away what I don't need; the rest is books, papers, clothes, etc.

yes, that's maybe what I feel - kind of a claustrophobic feeling with all that stuff...

Fruits and veggies are good stuff. I'm doing that as well. And my 4 year old nephew actually ASKED for spinach the other day and ATE it! Yay.

Oh yay! more and more are like this too :)

I know, it is a good feeling when you can just let go of all the clutter in your life, right?

It really is. I'm pretty interested in the philosophical concept of minimalism, which of course involves keeping only the absolute necessities around - and maybe a few items of sentiment. I'm nowhere near that, but that is a possible goal for the future. Sounds freeing.

Oh yes. I LOVE getting rid of stuff! Wholes boxfuls at a time. It's so refreshing to pick out just a few items that I want to keep, then chuck the rest into the dumpster...very rarely do I ever end up regretting throwing something away.

That's what I am gearing towards as well, being more minimalistic
there are the basic necessities and sentimental things and well, I need my computer, lol but like you said, the concept is freeing.

I like to post things on freecycle.org. I don't even have to haul it, and I get showered with gratitude. Can't beat that.

I used to throw away a lot of things and keep only the bare necessities. We moved around a lot and the less we have, the better.

i've got lots of stuff that i'd like to get rid of

the problem is making the time and effort to do it

if anyone wants to come by and take some stuff, you're welcome to it

Isn't there a market for rockets and contraptions that almost work, but not quite?

I have so much clutter to get rid of and give to charity, I've had it upstairs in cupboards for so long that I decided to bring it all down to the livingroom last week so that I would have to go through it.....so far I have given lots of unwanted handbags, shoes and jewellery to my sister, I've put some stuff online to sell to make a few bob and the stuff for charity is still sat here....I am hoping I can deliver it tomorrow but I keep procrastinating there's quite a few bits to take and I have to walk up with it....it's gunna be a few trips and I like to do everything at once, i'm terrible like that. Like when I've washed all the clothes and put them in piles to go upstairs, I have to do it all in one go....it's apparently called the lazy mans load my mum says lol.

But yeah when I get rid of all the stuff I don't use and declutter my cupboards etc, I love it....it makes me feel great inside like I am decluttered and happy and able to relax. And also I can find other things much easier and have less tidying up to do. :applause:

i prefer not to throw away stuff but every year or 2 i do a clear out and get rid of stuff i really dont need. best thing about doing that tho is finding cool little things you didnt even know you had :)
i do enjoy giving stuff tho, even if its just a helping hand or making them laugh.
even giving stuff away or helping friends on an online game makes me feel good.

i don't like to accumulate things really. i also don't feel attached to a lot of what i own. i don't really have any sentimental belongings.

still, my room is cluttered as hell. with mostly garbage....

tv and the internet have destroyed my life. i'm a zombie. i wish i had something i'd really like to hold on to.

God, yes. I feel a sort of relief whenever I get rid of stuff that's piled up. This has also made me more picky when buying stuff, because I don't like the thought of buying something I'm only going to get rid of after a short while.
