It's still only cool to hipsters, but geeky and nerdy interests have gained a lot more acceptance and people now know not to mess with the lady who can fix your things. I don't mind that much.

I don't think of it as an insult at all. It might still be for younger people (high school and younger) because being called anything other than normal or cool is an insult. But I think the older you get, the less of an insult it is.

I've finally been able to settle into my own skin for the first time in my life. In doing so, I've discovered my true personality: I'm a geek! I used to hide it, but I don't care anymore. All of my friends are geeky or nerdy about something. Everyone I know is a geek in some way. The term "geek" for me is just a combination of intense knowledge and passion about a subject.

I'm too socially inept to have even made friends with the other geeks and nerds.

One definition I've heard is that nerds are brainy, geeks are obsessed with something and dorks are socially inept, but you can be more than one. By that pic, I'd fall into the nerd category.

Why does anyone care what anyone thinks. Yes I like computers and some people probably see me as a nerd, but who cares. At the end of the day if you have social phobia, it makes no difference what you think, because the only person that can help you is yourself. People might as well perceive me as a Martian, as it wouldn't make any difference to my social phobia. :(
