Canadian cost of living

Is this only about the cost of a house/rent? I haven't been to university for a month because the students are on strike, protesting the 97% increase of tuition fees, which had already gone up by 30% between 2006 and now... What's worse is that currently, free education at all levels in Quebec would cost about $700 million, but the government gives $950 million tax cuts to the rich...

right now, living in my dads place that we rent, it was built in 1963 and were at 1600$ a month in rent. rediculous. When we first moved in it was 800$.

Affordable housing is meant to help people who cant get out on their own, and the places your getting into, at least in calgary, are really new, as in built in the last 2 yrs. So its a fair shot. You give 15% of your equity from your place if you sell back to the organization to help other people in the same situation, so everyone wins.

To me, its a good cause. And i want to help others. We have to help eachother now or nothing will get better.

haha-- oh yeah!
I'm a complete deadbeat as it is. If I had to pay for all of my healthcare costs, I'd have racked up well over half a million dollars by now. XD
If I can't afford $800 rent on my own, how in the hell would I ever pay off a hospital bill like that?

this is why i think multigenerational homes are going to become mor the norm in the next generation. Me and my wife have talked about it at length and if we decide to have kids, were going to encourage them to stay home as long as they want. Married or no. Times are just tough. If things are rediculous for us i cant imagine how things are going to be 15-20 yrs from now.

Never known if it was accurate but I always heard that Vancouver is the 2nd most expensive place to live in the world. At least when I leave everything looks freaking cheap

I have always thought of living in British Columbia-well..dreamed of it.. Of course it's the most expensive

You can live in BC and get a house for less, the key is that it would have to be somewhere in central or eastern BC, ideally a smallish town, that's where the housing prices go back down to manageable. But I believe even places like Kelowna are cheaper. Just stay away from the lower mainland and vancouver!

Yes-- generally, the further away from the city center you are-- the cheaper the square footage is.

I've always wanted to be much more rural, anyways.

I just found these numbers and thought I'd share them!
I'm not so sure how accurate they are though... but I've only ever lived in Ontario.
What does everyone think?

Kinda makes me want to move out of province... but then I'd miss Toronto; even if I never leave my bedroom. haha
Do these numbers seem accurate?

My rent in the city was $875 when I was in college and then the city home we rented was $1550.

I was thinking about moving to Ontario, to a Naturist resort. Looks like I need to win the lotto. Looks light I'll be staying here.

I want to move away from the citys outskirts, out into the conutryside of calgary. Still be within driving distance of town, ive got no choice there, i have to work in town.

But id love to come outside every morning to birds, quiet, and some wildlife rather than cars every day.

Living in Saskatchewan is hard as well over the past 5 yyears.

you could get a new house for $150 k but nowits $400-450 k for a new one.

I live in a 750 sq ft 1 bedroom condo that was at one time worth 75 k but I piad $150 k

Everything else is just getting more expensive like utilities and food. I am lucky my job will provide me a cell phone that saves me $75 a month

I think the biggest rip off I have when paying bills is my TV/ internet bill since I don'\t have many channels but is anywhere from $107-$125 a month.

I only pay $250 a month rent (it's a deal i worked out with my boss)

if you move in with me, we'll split the rent

you'll only have to pay $175 a month!

bring cake

This reminds me of when I rented a house from my grandmother for $400 a month. I wanted to get a roommate and have them pay their "half" of $300 a month. In the end I decided living alone wasn't wort the money I could swindle out of someone.

I have no clue about the other provinces, but I am in Toronto.

And it seems kind of accurate, the problem is it varies so much. I pay 1300. Cheapest is about 800, For a bacholor basement apartment in a decent area. a 3 bedroom being more like 1500.

It also highly depends on the area you live in.

the closer you are to downtown the more crazy prices get. These are the prices in the outskirts

The house I'm in is 1350 a month but its split 4 ways so 340ish a month for me which is an amazing deal. The yard is huge, the house is huge and its almost downtown, can't get any better than that

I live north of Montreal with my dog and cat in a house I own. I would love to have a roommate who understands me and my anti-social lifestyle. Where does one find a like minded person?
