A bit Depressed

Been feeling depressed lately, and kinda sick; having headaches and being tired. Feel like I should be doing something with myself. Like exploring the world or something. My choices are limited though. Any activities that can be done during the winter?

Also: any other activities that can really just get your mind off things? Not stress-relieving but to get your mind off things.

If I had snow I'd be all over that! I don't, but ranch stuff keeps me plenty busy physically, which helps against my depression.

If going outside isn't an option at all, there's physical games on the Wii and stuff that are pretty good.

Well there's lots you can do. You could learn a new instrument, learn some words from another language, listen to music, draw, yoga, some other work out video, cook, watch tv, get a new computer game or video game, clean, redecorate, go to the craft store and make things, read a book, make a fruit smoothie, get a new pet....

None of these will help my small situation of depression. Nothing of material will, I think.

Anyways I've actually been interested in playing some instruments. I want to play the guitar and the piano. I know absolutely nothing about anything about how to start playing or how to read notes. Just nothing. And they're quite expensive, and I would have to ask my parents to buy them for me, and even an instructor as well, plus supplies and books and sheets. Is it possible to self-teach?

Lilium thats great idea and u help your self:) thats something to appreaciating. Everything is almost possible today why not self-teach? If u are enough willing and fishing i think u can do it. Maybe u will be not composer but u can do it some small steps forward by yourself. U will see how u are doing and later u can go to some music class or go private to learn it to some teacher of music.

Self-teach, sure. I am doing that with the didgeridoo. It gets difficult. Good friend told me (cannot recall word for word) so is life difficult and not easy why should this be any different? Just keep at it. Rewards could be great.

I found the guitar and violin just frustrated me. You have to find out what you can do, and like.

I think if you should get an instructor at least once before you start it, just my opinion though. It helped me learn violin but piano would probably be eaiser to self teach. Still at least one lesson would be helpful though.

Depends if you are autodidact or not, and how motivated you are. I'm self-learning an instrument right now and it's pretty easy with youtube, maybe you could check if there is good lessons for guitar and piano. As for activities, I don't know where you live, I don't know what is your financial capacity, but I'm fighting depression on a regular basis and what really works for me when it gets bad is to start a really demanding sport or activity and really commit to it. Like, do it everyday. I would suggest climbing but it's not for everyone and it's kind of expensive.

When i'm depressed, i got to the gym. It makes me feel better. It's healthy, and appearance wise you'll look better. Kills time as well. I also play guitar, so find a hobby maybe?

The ideal situation is to have a full time job you love and friends that you love being around and are great at socializing with. These things keep you so busy that you don't have time to feel depressed. The reason many of us are depressed is because we don't have these things. I for one fall into this category. I can't seem to get a job and I have had a past of struggling to connect w/ friends so I'm having trouble too.

Thanks for replying and giving suggestions, everyone.

I think for now I'll need a nice hobby to ease my mind. I'm motivated enough to teach myself the guitar and piano and I think at least a couple instructions will help as well. And it's true to keep yourself occupied with people or at least conversation. I find that it lessens the feeling, I guess.

Hmm, a musical instrument, I haven't even thought about that. I do like music, I should try to get a keyboard or something when I get enough money. It's actually a hobby that doesn't require television or computers.
