To be honest I find it hard to distinguish between friends and acquaintances. I find I have a few people in between that boundary - probably leaning more towards friends but still not close as we could be.
I would say I have 3-4 people I classify as actual friends. and then a circle of like 10-12 other people I hang out with on different weeks.
But recently that's all gone down the pan... I'm working to fight this though and I have improved a little.

I suppose I am the same as this.... I'm not very good at staying in contact with people, I always wait till they initiate a get together, when really I should be feeding some of my input too. I have a lot of acquaintances, that could potentially be my friends, but I just don't bother trying to get close to them....

Keep in mind that a person does not make friends from one day to the next. Any relationship takes time and work to establish. I have very few friends, but I believe in quality versus quantity.

i dont really think being black or white has anything to do with it(well depending on his country thou.) because I'm black and i'v a couple of friends actually but they are not close friends just hello/hi friends
I think I have a few of what you referred to as "work" friends- coworkers that I get along pretty well with, but don't see or talk to outside of work, besides the occasional trek to IHOP when the shift is over. I also have a few online friends (that I met here) that I keep in touch with through Facebook or email. Other than that, I have 0 friends- I don't hang out, talk on the phone with, or text anyone. I may as well not exist.

It is tough for me making friend but I have been blessed to have 4 of the best friends anyone could ask for and an amazing girlfriend. I learned that even people have entourages of friends normally have the most drama and sometimes are the lonliest. I have acquaintances but these 4(5) people are true to me and so I feel like I can call them TRUE friends.
