This Website Doesn't Help

Three reasons why this website doesn't help and I am leaving again.

1. All it is are people posting their own problems and encounters caused by SA that most of us have experienced before.

2. All everyone does is regurgitate the same useless advice over and over and it never really helps.

3. Forget about meeting a friend on here, everyone is just a username, nothing more and nothing less. We don't need anymore e-friends, we need REAL friends.

4. People seem to be more interested in distracting themselves from their own problems, rather than actually facing them and trying to solve them.

Good Night and Good-Bye!

This website CAN help , there are topics of use on this site.
Although Many people here are more focused on an escape , i agree with you.
Its sad really. I hope you find help somewhere else.
I question why i keep coming here too. I like to think maybe i can offer some help ?
I like to think that this site has offered some support from some of the users too.

I don't come hear seeking a cure, i come here because it's a place to bounce ideas off of people knowing i won't be criticized for it. I have many friends and i'm a pretty well liked person. But there is not one person i know personally that understands the hell i go through every day and that i can sit and talk to about it. It is so taxing on me everyday having to pretend that normal every day things don't bother me even though they are completely tearing my head apart. You know what i mean?? So, no i don't expect somebody to solve my issues for me but it's nice to have somebody listen without them telling me what a freak i am, or to just get over it

You don't look for a cure amongst the ill. You come here to commiserate about a shared ailment and talk about what balms you have discovered in life to ease the hurts. Some are "cured" and they have told you how, but everyone is different and maybe it will always linger for many of us.

PREACH IT! :p

I come here because i feel i can relate to you all. Not to try to cure myself.

4 Reasons to combat yours:

1. To be able to post a problem, is incredibly relieving and most people can not do so in real life. If only as a place to be able to express what others don't want to hear, it's very significant for the fact that our troubles are accepted somewhere. We are all important.

2. Advice is usually seen as repetitive when one does not want to accept it.
There is no such thing as useless advice. There can always be a use for something, the fact that many are willing to even repeat themselves is support enough that someone cares. That matters.

3. Learning to make friends is a process extended over any means including the internet. The success at being able to connect with someone is motivation and encouraging and helps very much in face to face situations. Knowing you have been able to be accepted by someone already, if even over the internet is gratifying. This also matters.

4. People will always need an escape as well as a goal. We need fun, we need to relax. The ability to socialize without pressure is not a distraction, but actually a practice of stress-relief. Stress can kill and therefore this too is important. If only to avoid so much frustration that we forget what makes us really happy in life.

Concluding. It is not this site that doesn't help, it is but an instrument just as everything else in life, and everything will only be what we make of it, including ourselves.
This site will help if you know how to help yourself first.

Sorry to see you frustrated, Interzone. I was going to write a detailed response, but 3lefts kind of read my mind and did it first.

As for me, this site helped me tremendously just by existing.

There is no quick cure plus we're all in the same boat. We aren't doctors or pyschiatrists who can help you BUT we can listen and relate. Why don't you post a topic to help YOU out. That's what I do. Right now I have a post (check it out) to ask ppl to suggest ideas for my day-to-day encounters for me. I have to do the work, but the others give me "homework". That's what it boils down to. YOU have to do the work. People on here are useful if you use them in an effective and creative way. Get it? You don't need to read every topic, I sure don't. Just find what will help you. If there's nothing, post something...

I know I won't get cured just by being in this forum, but I'm here to share my experiences and advice (in case I can give some). Moreover: I got to meet some people in person in another forum SP, and I've hanged out with them several times.

1. I come here to speak my mind and share my thoughts with others who are experiencing the same problems as me. This is the ONLY place I can come to do these things without feeling like I'm going to be judged and treated like a subhuman.

2. I give advice to the best of my ability. I'm not the best at it, I'm very well aware of that, but I can't say I don't try. I'm pretty sure this applies to everyone else on this forum. No one here is Yoda.

3. We're not just usernames. There is someone sitting behind that computer working their fingers over their keyboard and thinking about what to say to the people they're talking to. That someone is also taking their time to answer to someone else's problems and questions and whatnot and I consider that to be a form of compassion, a trait seen in friends. I consider anyone who takes the time of day to help me out or even just simply read my post to be a friend. No one in the real world even bothers to help me out let alone notice me.

4. It does seem like most people try to distract themselves from their own problems, but that's a normal defense mechanism - it's a part of being human. I've seen a handful of people actually making an effort to overcome their anxiety and I've watched youtube videos of people on this site who post those videos to discuss their SA and try to suggest methods of overcoming certain anxiety-inducing situations. That at least tells me that there are people here who are actually putting themselves out there to help others and get their message across to other victims of SA.

Everyone here has their own way of trying to help others. It can be frustrating at times, but you have to remember that everyone here is human. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. You won't find exactly what you're looking for by just sitting here and posting all day, but if you really take a look you can find people and posts that give you a whole new outlook on life and its problems.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't found what were you looking for in this site, for the second time it seems considering your statement "I am leaving again". Regardless, I hope you at least got something out of your experiences here on the forum so far and at least remember some people here as more than "just usernames".

It would be nice to see you on this site again. If not, I give you my best wishes in life and hope you evolve into the better person you strive for. Take care of yourself Interzone :)

Sorry you feel that way, however i think it helps a hell of a lot knowing that there is a place you can come to openly talk about your problems and speak to people who face similar troubles on a daily basis, It's been a big relief for me being able to to share my thoughts and seek advice and reassurance as opposed to bottling everything up and driving myself crazy

getting better is a long hard road, this site offers nothing but fellowship, tips and limited advice.

I don't know of any other SA site that helps with the cure
