For example, when ever and where ever you are, as soon as you feel something is wrong you text message your friend to tell them about it...Do you do this, and do you find it to be comforting?..

Nope. I am sick of people who live through their phones. They don't even pay attention to the people that are physically there with them.

no. i mean when your alone in a public place!

Oh. Still no. If I have nothing important to say, why should I send pointless messages to people.

Now.. If I fell into a well, I would send a message for someone to come and help me. But I'm not going to send msg's like "So, what are you doing?", or.. "I was so drunk last night.."

Pretending to text can be comforting. Once in a while I'll text my brother but other than that no texting.

^ Exactly this. That's pretty much the main reason why I have a cell phone is for texting. It's WAY easier for me to text someone and converse with them that way than it is for me to actually talk to or call someone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the type to be attached to my phone at every single moment, I just find texting to be much more comforting.

YES. I love texting. It's the ease, I never worry about "oh what if bothering person or they're in class or work" because well their fault if have it on and not on vibrate and can answer anytime. Frankly be cool to text with some SPW folk =)

I haven't been able to text in quite a while because I lost my cell phone service due to finances. However, when I was able to text, I did find it somewhat comforting to text a friend when I was anxious. My dear friend Jessica (I met her online, she lives on the other side of the country, but I met her in person a few years ago) was always very helpful and did whatever she could to try and help. Even though I agree with NoModernRomance, that too many people live through their phones, I do miss being able to converse with people that way. It's weird.

I text more than chat on the phone. I sometimes get bored on the phone and space out. Or stumble on my words.

I find that I can express my feelings and tell people about my anxiety through text than talking in person. I can gather all my thouhgt and then push the send button.

A side note I really like to use Blackberry Messenger more than texting since my contacts can put up thier status and I can repsond to it. Without that I have a hard time initiating a conversation.

I find it easier to text people about unimportant things because there's no contact involved, but for more personal matters I'd prefer to talk face to face even if it makes me anxious.

Coincidentally, I almost never talk about personal matters.

I find texting to be a relief, because when txting I have time to think of what to say or come up with the next topic of conversation. That way, I dont get anxious and feel pressured into talking to the person when I think im boring them. I noticed that whenever I'm on the phone with someone, theres always that awkward (and usually long) pause in a conversation, and my brain just shuts down and Im unable to think of anything else to say, just like if we were talking in person. This is usually when they say theyll call me back later or text me when they hang up, but most never do. And for the ones that do call me back; its usually just a repeat. So I get to thinking they hung up on me because Im a boring person, and so Im left thinking about it for days after....
# So although not a complete solution, texting certainly alleviates the problem of anxiety for me when talking to someone on/through the phone, or just socializing in general. I know that some situations cant be helped (you obviously wouldnt text you're boss saying you're late or text through an interview) but texting does have its merits.

I love texting and am kinda addicted LoL :p

lol :D yeah something like that for me too , is not that i'm addited but i like so much doing it , it helps me to express me better and to bring out what i really think and feel , its easier for me to comunicate in that way

I do like text msg-ing it is a way of communication to keep your connection up, Even though a phone call is more personal and you can tell more, cuz a txt message is short or you wanna cross your txt limit. lol

I think a phone call is more comforting (depends on whom i'm talking to)
Because you can hear the other phoner speak, and you get more words then just a txt message.

I don't hate it, but I do hate it when people don't pay attention and txt all theh time.

Someone use Ping chat for Iphone/Black Berry?
My ID : Sasping. so If someone wants a txt friend , you can txt me =)
Would be cool to txt with someone from SPW.

I can only text comfortably on one of those phones that have a proper keyboard.. Otherwise a single text message will take me about a millennium. :B

On those phones, I do find it nice to text/chat with someone. :3
