What sleep aid works for you?

I'm quite an insomniac and tend to use a sleep aid nightly. Problem is, the effects wear off over 3-4 weeks and they become more or less useless. Ambien, Trazadone, Seroquel, all have worked for me, but only for short period of time. I'm sure they'd work fine if I only had trouble sleeping a couple of nights per week, but I can't ever sleep. If your sleeping problem is every night, you're gonna have to just jump around to different meds like me. That's my two cents,

Peace

Anything with Doxylamine Succinate. Diphenhydramine makes my restless legs 10 times worst.. I'd be half conscious and twitching like a zombie for the entire night :(

I'm a chronic insomniac whos tried every sleep aid under the sun. Xanax seems to be the only thing that helps me sleep. My main problem with sleeping is my mind races and won't shut up, prolly my OCD. Just thoughts and songs replay over and over again. Xanax helps quiet my mind so I can sleep even if it does not sedate me.

Go to park at 3 p.m., play basketball until 7-8 p.m., come home and take a warm bath, feel sleepy -> sleep.

The only thing I've ever used is diphenhydramine hydrochloride (aka Benadryl). I never used anything before maybe six months ago, but finally had to because I was so sick of the insomnia. Since I have allergies that can get pretty bad, especially at night, it's good for both things. The problem is that I have to increase the dosage all the time just to fall asleep. I used to fall asleep after just one pill (25mg), but had to increase that to two not too long after. Now, I'm taking four most of the time & it doesn't help a lot of the times anymore but I'm going to try not to increase it any higher than that. Luckily, the maximum daily dosage is 400 mg.'s & I take 100 mg.'s so I don't have to worry about anything bad happening.

When i was really ill last year i was given Zopiclone to help me sleep, and it's the only thing that works to give me a good nights sleep. I've trued over the counter sleepers but nothing worked.

When more eh "natural" methods of relaxation don't work (usually does!) then I occasionally take an OTC sleeping pill. But I try to avoid them--even with 8 hours of sleep, they usually make me feel like a zombie the next day.

I don't usually have that much trouble sleeping though. Only occasionally when I'm super stressed with work.

It is said that chronic insomnia is itself a symptom such as heart disease, depression, lung disease, so it's important to see a doctor if you are having trouble sleeping. Sleep medications are most effective when used sparingly for short term situations.

Seroquel worked for me but I didn't like the hunger side affect, it made me a pig. I would always be starving right before I fell asleep so I would wake up with chocolate cake on my face and in my hair and not remember... Now I take Unisom and switch it up with benedryl and a couple of others so it wont stop working. Best of all its an otc
