What role does the computer/online surfing play in your life?

Right now, it's everything.
I'm online when I'm not sleeping. haha
If I were working, I'd never be online - same goes for if I had a child; that's how it always was in the past. Maybe an hour of internet/week?

Anyway... it's my only social outlet.
I need it for research and keeping my recording software up to date, too.

I'd be able to survive without it pretty easily after a couple of weeks or so without it.
I've done that before, too.

Eh.. there's really nothing else to do here. I don't even know what's going on in the world so the internet is helpful.

I feel that I use it too much to "escape". I really feel a soothing effect when surfing on the web....I get away from my own feelings. I plan on stopping cold turkey really really soon....

You can do it!
If you think it could be a problem, it's brave of you to go cold turkey and deal with this addiction; as it may be.
You might discover all sorts of things about yourself in your time offline-- and someday you can come back in moderation.
Good luck!

I'm worried I may be addicted, seeing as I'm on it most of the day. It's my form of escape and amusement. I can read books, watch movies/tv shows, listen to music, write music, write novels, paint, talk to people, play video games, catch up with what's going on in the world... there's just so much you can do. I would get so bored without my PC.

A lot. I use it to search for jobs, keep in contact with friends, watch movies and make new online friends. I don't like it to consume me and if I could choose to I'd rather not use it, I rely on it a lot as I have no job and a non-existent social life here. Before I graduated or when I was working full-time I rarely used the internet so I feel a bit guilty running back to it, but without it I wouldn't have met all my online friends and wouldn't have found any jobs. But I still try to limit my use per day, I think I'd go crazy being on it 24/7.

I'ts the only way I talk to people who live outside my room.

I'd leave it if I had something to live for, but I don't, so I go online.

A big one.

The internet represents reach and knowledge,
The computer represents a multi functional tool that is also a entertainment hub.

Together they make a near perfect tool for many things.

I enjoy things like food, nature and genuine ancient sightings, which can't be simulated. But computer does offer information about these things that can help see/feel/experience them at all or better.

It's a mental extension when you think about it. Retrieve information, send information, create and experience (games). All things that mainly take part inside the mind.

I mostly use it when i'm at work. i rarely log on from home unless I need to look something up.

if my job was more interesting and engaging, i'd probably never be on the internet for slacker or social purposes. i can live without a social life online and in real life.

A big one, I'm always downloading things for uni research, or writing on there, replying to emails, talking to people with interests that not all my IRL friends share. I'm not always on the computer, but my computer is always on doing something.

I don't think people should feel as bad for being on it a lot. Of course if it's your whole life there's a big problem, but I doubt most people use it more than their parents watch TV.
