hey honeydippedxo, have you been doing too much EFT? :)

just wanting to remind you that even if you're feeling super-charged right now, other people may not be... and it's okay to let'em change at their own pace, when they want to...

it's true that when we are feeling great we may want everyone to know it and try it too!! :)

Maybe you can post your own story for inspiration? What have you done and what has changed in your life? You sound super-excited!! :) Tell us about it!! Maybe this will inspire people even more?

I'm sure everyone is trying their hardest to live, and fill their lives up with living depsite this illness. Trying to live with this illness is simply not easy and can come at great cost to physical and mental health. Sure it is possible to live, but it is a constant battle.

I know that I've been living a lot, getting out there and really experiencing brilliant days. But putting myself out there into the world of people has created its own complications.

I face crippling fear of being misunderstood every time I face the world. I've been called names, I've been laughed at and ridiculed, I've been taken advantage. All because of my anxiety.

This got too much in July, and I had a melt down after a day that went really wrong for me out in the world of people. I couldn't sleep or eat for almost a week, and contacted a mental health crisis team. That is the cost of trying to face the world sometimes.

Snowdrop have you tried c.b.t therapy? If not look it up.You can buy some quite good books on sites like amazon for cheap (I would recommend overcoming social anxiety and shyness)

There is also an audio series by Dr Richards which is quite popular and worth getting. It doesn't suit everyone, but I think it's a really good place to start.

Yes I have tried CBT. It didn't work. But thank you for the suggestions, it's nice of you :)

I've got to say, even though I don't feel anything positive at the moment, I have to say thank you for trying to lift us all up. I know it's something we all have to do, and I will try my best.
The support in this site is amazing. Maybe at times, yes, I don't think anyone really understands me or anyone on this site really goes through anything at all like my situation, everything that goes in my head etc.; it's difficult to stop being so narrow-minded when you're so wrapped up in your own world. I guess it's because this thread doesn't relate to anything in specific so I can respond to it better..if that makes sense.
At any rate, I just think what's the point of giving up if I haven't for about 5yrs?

Brilliant post. We all have the potential to be so much more than we are, its never to late for self improvement. Even the smallest positive change can snowball, manifest itself into something great.

Your welcome!CBT did not work for me the first two times I had it.I think you have to be In the right frame of mind for it,otherwise exposure therapy can backfire and make you feel worse.

It is something I think is worth persisting with though.Even if it doesn't cure you..it can make you aware of our negative thinking patterns, and the distraction and breathing techniques can really help reduce anxiety.

I've made up my mind. I'm going to try and see someone if it's at all possible. I've been miserable since I was a kid and I'm sick of it.

Well I hope it helps bud and I hope you find someone understanding and supportive.

feathers- Nothings changed for me but my way of thinking. that through all I've been through in my life mental, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, drunk and drug addicted family problems and homelessness just to name a few of the obviously horrific traumas, NOTHING has hurt me more than SA. Its a real life crippler. I know this just as well as the rest of you. Its no joke and is something you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. We have all been through some shyttt in our lives that is plain to see just browsing the forums. So if we can take all thats happend to us, we can make it through SA. I see alot of people on here telling other people they can do things only to find a post of their own talking about how nothing will ever work for them. This is so untrue! we can all do anything and everything we truly want to do. If others aren't ready to change their way of thinking that's okay but I'll be here to remind them that they can and that their lifes is in their hands.

I do face my fears and I hate it. I don't think a person should have to feel fear all the time. Some of us are just this way, why are we not allowed to be individuals? People ARE jerks a lot of the time and I would rather only have to be around certain ones. To me this is like telling a boisterous person to totally change and tone it down, except those types of people are more accepted so it would never be said.

Yeah I know alot of people are jerks but letting them stop you from living your life is just wrong! If someone pushes you down thats their bad if you stay down its yours. Waiting for a certain thing to come along and change things for you or for the people around you to change toward you is just setting yourself up for failure. Despite SA and other people you gotta keep it moving, not dwell on the negative in your life, unless you wanna stay where you are. if thats what you want then ok. but you dont deserve to sell yourself short. noone does. if your not ready to change then keep doing what your doing but at the end of the day what are you waiting for? mind over matter.(generally speaking, its not directly aimed toward you Pooka)

I just don't believe in mind over matter when it involves chemical imbalances, depression and pervasive developmental disorders.

I think most people on here haven't given up, are still trying , but it is damn hard to live with this mental illness. Positive words are great, but without recognising the difficulties faces by anxiety sufferers, they are just that, words.

Lets see, I've:

beaten panic attacks
I spent three years trying to rebuild my knee, so I could walk again
I've had stories published
had my photographs published in magazines and newspapers
I've run half marathons, ultra trail races
I've discovered new plant species
Learnt to swim
Been treated for haemochromatosis.

So I'm out there living, but my word it isn't easy. Let me assure you giving up would be easier, so I don't have to face the pain and fear of suffering from anxety. And over the last year I have been unable to sleep and eat trying to get up the courage to face my fears. I still throw myself at the world each day, and sometimes I win.

Well said. Having said that, I still want to believe I can change with determination.

I say that to myself every night before heading to bed. Then everything changes when you see people's faces.

Hey hd - just wanted to say thanks for adding a couple of very inspirational posts to an already good thread. From how it sounds, you've been through a lot, nearly the same as an ex-gf of mine (we're still good friends). Stay fighting.

Guys if you really want to improve your lives you already know what you have to do. Times a tickin, don't waste your life being so miserable. Time to stop the sob stories, let go of the past and let a new story begin. No more babying yourself, making excuses and blaming. Its all just a waste of your own time. Get out there with your head held high! Let your voice be heard. And stop over analyzing everything. Everything will be alright. All the things other people have done to you are not as bad as what you're doing to yourself. The only way to get over your fears is to face them. Face them every single day no matter what happens! No more hiding away and giving up. Life knocks everyone down its up to you to get back up. If you honestly want to change you will. Its not easy but nothing worth anything comes easy.

That's precisely the kind of attitude everyone needs to overcome SA. I tell myself this all the time. However, it's all easier said than done, unfortunately. *sigh*
