What is the Point of Being Yourself?

I think by now you guys know that I'm a non-talkative, shy person. But what is the point of being around other people, being yourself when they won't accept who you are. I'm getting sick of this! And I'm sorry if I'm generalizing but, I think there are more bad people in this world then there are good people, in fact true friends are so rare. I look at people on yahoo who have difficult experiences that I'm having and some of the answers for example, If a guy was nice, he's considered boring, then the answers say that he has to be funny or at least try to strike up a conversation.:confused::confused: Isn't that trying to be fake? Trying to be someone you're not? I don't get it.

hey man i feel ya, the yahoo answers are just that lol, yahoo answers.. You can't really take them literally,

You know trying to stretch yourself isn't fake.. We all have the ability to give things a little effort. Go half way. If you're going more than half-way and you're putting on a stand up show, then you might be being fake. But we gotta try too, just know when its too much and when its not enough.

If the people around you don't accept who you are, then why should you accept them? They're not nice people if they're doing that.

Don't be anyone else than yourself. That's the best you can ask of yourself.

It's for yourself-- not for anyone else.
Being yourself can make you happier than if you were faking who you were. There's alot of stress that comes along with putting on that 'mask' every day.

I think that's what it means.
Doesn't mean every person who is themself will be loved by everyone-- or that every person who is themself is truly kind or polite.
Just happy that they don't have to put on a facade every day.
Happy that they can love who they are.

Sorry if I go off topic here but I don't understand what being myself means. Does it mean that I can't grow or develop myself? What if I'm not too happy with my self? Being myself doesn't mean that I can't try to sort out my weakness. I think it all depends on how content you are with yourself. If you're perfectly happy with who you are, then don't try to change just for others' sake but if you want to, then go for it. Plus I don't think you won't be yourself by adding some more traits to your personality. It'll still be you, just more polished.

Perhaps it can be interpreted as not compromising in order to please others.

For me, it would be not to have huge regrets on my death bed and avoid realising that I've lived a life of lies.
