What do you guys think of this generation today?

The bands/artists of course they just talk. Make catchy music, get paid, why would they care what they put in their lyrics? But theres always that one weirdo who will act upon the words of somebody they look up to. Just something to think about. I don't really listen to heavy metal, I do some bands and know they say offensive things.
I'm not offended per say, just disappointed. From the meaningful lyrics of The Beatles, Pink Floyd all the bands that actually write with meaning to the 'YO WHERE MA HOE AT? IMMA GONNA RAPE HER!'
The bands I listen to are far from catchy, too, so they're pandering to a very niche market. If the one weirdo acts upon it, it's more his thoughts than the music he listens to (but blaming the music for one's actions does make a good story/newspaper article).

The (d)evolution of the lyrical themes in music is just the changing of the times. The Beatles and Pink Floyd and such bands with good lyrical themes don't sell as well as whatever Nicki Minaj is spewing out. It's all about the dollars.

Heavy metal does have interesting lyrics, too. You have to know where to look.

I agree with you. It seems many people are just copying everyone else.

Very true! I guess because of this, if you are an individual you will feelvery "set apart" from the others in some way. I do of course hah.

Well, let me put it this way. Our generation looks OK when it comes to music, movies, politics etc. But people are morally corrupt. I am not trying to be a Bible thumper, but this is what I believe. It's nothing but partying and getting wasted now a days. It's terrible that this is where we've come to.

I kno wat you are saying! However I wouldn't use the word "moral" myself in reference to this. As usualy, when I see someone using that phrase, they mean some kind of limitation by it. I definitely don't do that way of doing things, ie. "going out", "partying" or "drinking2 myself however and so I know its frustrating when everyone around does.

I find it difficult to find anyone who is closer to being 'straight-edge' like myself.

There are LOTS of people my age who claim they don't drink/smoke/do drugs; then 5 minutes later, light up a joint.

It's troubling also-- that so many teenage girls tend to lose their virginity the same way.
They go to a party; get smashed and wake up naked.
Wonderful. No one has any level of restraint, really.
No moral code that they'd stick to in the face of peer-pressure.
That's what I see in people my age and younger and it really disappoints me.

Also... I feel like I have to say that if people didn't get wasted; they wouldn't 'behave' in any unusual way that gets them in trouble.

I know what you mean too! Although my opinion on marijuana as a "drug" is somewhat undecided. Alcohol is more acceptable and yet it seems worse overall in term of harm

But anyway,

I too think that is sad. But what frustrates me most is that its seen as the "acceptable" way to meet poeople or have sex by doing it only when totally drunk so you don't even know whats going on hah. Not only is that "worse" in my opinion because peeople don't know what they're doing and don't remember, but it alienates people like myself who want to do these things without being "wasted" haha.

I agree with what you said, but I'll take it a step further with the music videos. That's the ultimate in sexuality with these girls. It's like I'm watching porn or something. I hate watching them. I have also seen young girls singing such songs, too. It's really weird.

As a lover of all things heavy metal, let me assure you that there are some songs and albums and bands that depict these things, too. It's all a matter of taking them tongue-in-cheek.

I have two albums by a band simply called Whore. No guesses what they sing about. While I don't condone what they're saying, I take it with a grain of salt and I know they wouldn't go out and do these things in real life. I know of another band whose song titles I will not write here and that is much worse.

However, I am taking this viewpoint from a male's perspective, while a female like yourself would find such things a lot more offensive, which I don't blame you for.

I agree with all of that. There's definitely a time and a place for it, but pop music isn't it.

I don't know what you're talking about. I just need to pick a seat and contemplate tomorrow's day.

Try telling the people behind the scenes making loads of money off it.

i'm hopeful at this time ,I quite like a lot of things from the current generation despite me really being from an older gen. youtube for instance is a great platform for new bands and musicians to get their work into the public domain. I think pop music has improved since the millennium. I think the cultural shift that has happened in the last 10 years has really fired up peoples creativity and opened new doors of opportunity in music.

I don't find anything wrong with it, I mean they aren't hurting anybody and it's their preference if they like doing that sort of thing. Some people are just more sexual than others, whether it be male or female. I guess women are just more open today to not be hiding it.

the only constant in the universe is change itself

everything happens precisely when it is supposed to happen

this generation for this time

that generation for that time

there is no okay or not okay

it is what it is

Exactly. I totally agree

Whether this generation is good or bad depends on the person seeing it. Every thing is as it is. Each person has his/her own definition of good and bad based on his/her biases.

I dont think there is anything new,I always say that girls are just like guys in this aspect, only naive boys and captain save a ......... think otherwise.
They can do what they want, but I would never want to be with someone who were with more than one person at a time,to me that is cheating and tells me they are willing to cheat.

On another note I remember that a psicologist was saying that we are headed for a society that will only have open relationships and multiple relationships,I can see that happening,I have never found someone in my generation who turned down people in order to be loyal or that has any sense of loyalty, its a shame really, I would rather die alone or just die.
