what calms you

For me its watching t.v., video games, hitting things or people::(:, getting in trouble: for some reason if I get in trouble with the law I become very centered, driving, eating, being seductive, smoking, sleeping: if i get really upset I just go to sleep instead of crying, straitening my hair:confused:, being around certain people, falling asleep in someone lap, putting on chap-stick:confused:,sitting outside by myself, cleaning, and prob. other things but i can't think of them.

Sleeping is a big one for me because when I'm asleep I'm not dwelling on things, if that makes sense. Movies, music, video games, working out, playing with my dog, etc.

When it rains it always calms me down.
I'm reminded of this because it's raining outside right now :)
Watching the sun-rise,
Just thinking,
Music,
Something humorous,
or appreciative.
If I'm really upset I usually just think it out,
until I can get myself to smile at something, anything.

Putting a robe or blanket in the dryer 'till it's warm and then using it
Taking a walk (Only calming when there is nobody around)
Meditating
Weight lifting/running
Focusing on the simple things, and focusing on nurturing the 5 senses through them
Decaf tea
Snow, rain, sun or darkness all do wonders.. In different ways
Walking around barefoot if you can
Talking to somebody online (Not real life of course.. That would be the opposite of calming)
Finding guidance or leisure through wonderful authors or philosophers
A shower, because I don't enjoy baths
Matching mood with music
Playing the guitar
Dreaming up the future
Studying things of nature, or researching things that are in equilibrium (reassuring)
Organizing

I have always wanted to have a friend that could enjoy silence with me, to have a presence and know you are not alone in the moment, and yet are so comfortable with that presence. I am not sure if this can ever happen for me but I'd imagine that kind of person sharing a moment, especially one of nature, would be one of the most calming experiences.

Time at home alone
Walking in the bush
Being by the sea
Listening to rain on the roof
Enthralling documentaries
Being online here
Exploring on my bike
Family stays at a shack (this is magically calming)
Purring puss-cat cuddles
Standing in wind
Watching birds

Whiskey. Since I stopped taking medication some time ago I have occasional problems regarding self-soothing. It's not that I ever freak out, I'm just a mess internally.

Alot of these lists are not relaxation, they are escapes. And some are not healthy.

The only things that relax me are meditation, being in nature, taking baths, sitting in jacuzzi's, stretching, cooking, listening to music and playing guitar. Sometimes crafts, like making masks.

The only thing I can think of right now that actually calms me is cuddling. There is just something about holding a woman in my arms that instantly makes me relaxed.
