I really want to get into bodybuilding, but the times I was in the gym
I got so paranoid, that everyone was watching me, when I did some benchpress that I made some ugly faces and it turns all red and that I need to greet everyone there in small room because you see the same people always and I don't want to start a conversation.... this all lead me to give up my weight training for a perfect body and all the diet

i rememeber i read a post of yours were you said u started therapy. how did it go?

you don't have to talk to anyone there if you don't want to, and also they don't care what the other persons do in the gym, they focus on their own stuff.

Kind of like real life nobody focuses on you there are too many people and can you focus on all of them? because that's how they see you just doing your thing you feel uncomfortable at first but you keep doing it and soon you'll act like you own it.

i NEED to get into better shape. i know i do.

Part of my problem though is i find it very difficult to commit to it, money or not. Im tired at the end of the week and just dont have the drive.

Self defeating. But then, i think about everybody else there and its intimidating, especially if theyre already in shape, then id be the only starter, lol.

Im probably overthinking it but...yea

Convince a buddy to come with you, that's what I did until I got a bit more confidence and experience and after that I was going alone.
I know it's a bit intimidating ,I even had some bad experience with some aggressive steroid users but that didn't kept me from going to gym,so if I did it you can do it too:D.

I also go usually alone, not the nicest feeling in the world, but i can live with it

Well you don't NEED to go to a gym to strength train. Obviously there are exercises you can do without weights. I don't know how strong/muscular you are right now, so pushups, situps/crunches, etc might not be enough for you, you might be beyond that point. I don't know what your financial situation is like, but you could buy weights if you have the money. I've been keeping an eye on craigslist so I can get some used weights cheap.

I started strength training in January but have been having some trouble and haven't been able to have a proper diet for it due to money. I haven't been going to the gym though, I've been using weights that my dad bought. Since I've never exercised and rarely played sports I've been a creampuff. So even after months of doing it, I'm still lifting light (although poor diet plays into this a lot as well).

I still don't know a whole lot about bodybuilding, I mean I'm definitely not an expert, but if you need help or have questions I could try to help you some. For example, if you want to start bodybuilding at home but do not have any weights, I could get some exercises for you that you can do without weights.

When I went I was hoping to meet people, but was completely ignored. Everybody was there to work after all, and they kept their head down and did that. Frustrating, but I should have expected it on reflection. I mean, it's you who is looking at them, yet worrying they're looking at you...

I have weights a bench and balance ball at home.
Those would be good for you to start, Clown - just to have a small space to work out whenever is great.
Running is also a great exercise for anyone with anxiety issues.

In the summer, I run 8-16km/day and do strength training and yoga every other day.
Seemed to do me alot of good-- but if you're wanting to really get into bodybuilding, it would probably do you alot of good to join a club or somewhere that has groups of bodybuilders and professional trainers who can give you tips based on experience and spot for you.

do it at home you can do pretty much everything at home, now if you want to compete in bodybuilding thats different,Ross Enamait has some pretty interesting books if you dont have any equipament,I have like 120 kg of free weights at home, but its been a while since I dont use it,I get too tired because of working,in my free time I want to rest and use the computer,if you really want to go to a gym remember that everyone has to start somewhere.

Yea, you're so right. Clown, people are selfish, even you, and me. You are always concerned about yourself, or how do you look in the eyes of others. Guess what, everyone else thinks the same.. they're too busy focusing on themselves to have the time to check what you're doing or how you're doing it. Just do your thing man, like everyone else.

I used to be really nervous about going to the gym but now I go about twice a week and don't feel nervous at all. I rarely talk to anyone there and there are plenty of other people who go there to work out, not to socialize. I actually kind of like the feeling of being around lots of people but not being pressured to talk. I find it really hard to get motivated working out at home by myself but have no problems at the gym. Having attractive women to look at helps too :)

I go to the gym now too since a few weeks.

I go with a friend. That certainly took the edge of it. I went to the gym a couple of years before, but back then I was really distracted by anxiety. Now I go there because I like exercise and it makes me feel well afterwards and in fact my total well being improves. Feeling more fit, less tired, more energy also has given improvements in the social area.

There's still sometimes a bit of annoyance, because there's often unwanted eye contact with people (people opposing you on the apparats) and it can kind of make me feel like "what are you staring at". But like others have said, it's mostly in your head. Most people don't really stare at all and are just busy with their exercises.

I kind of feel like I want to go alone now. I feel like the guy I go with doesn't really want to really go for it and it kind of bugs me at times. Like he wants to do everything together and doesn't really take the initiative himself to go do something on his own.

If I were you I would start with cardio, and do some lightweight training for a few weeks. Maybe the instructors can give you a Beginners program on a sheet of paper. Maybe you can also ask one of your friends to join you.
