Random fact of the day: I can't pronounce the word "water"

Well it is a tricky one. lol. If I made a list of all the words I couldn't pronounce there would be a lot of words on it. me+hooked on phonics=not good

quite often im asked to repeat myself also. i mumble a lot when i dont know im mumbling. sometimes i also slur my words because im saying stuff too fast i think? and some combinations of words i have a hard time getting out haha. i sound normal and dont have a speech impediment or anything...its just weird. like if im talking at a nomral pace i cant say something that involves the word "asked" followed by a word that begins with S for example. like if i was to try and say "i asked susan for help." if i say it at my normal talking pace, it would sound like "i a$$ susan for help." This is one more many word combinations i have a hard time with haha but all with the same basic principle of the words just not flowing into eachother smoothly.

I thought I was alone in this. I'm used to having to repeat what I say and sometimes more than once for people to hear what I'm saying. I'm really used to it as in I wait for them to say "what" now every single time I speak and then try to say what I'm saying more clearly.

What I noticed is that its level depends on my mood and my level of SA at the time. Like sometimes I feel I speak pretty clearly with no problems. So I thought before it's a SA-related problem.

I think, in general, my pronunciation of words is pretty good. But I have this issue where I instantly think of five ways to say what I'm thinking and mid-way through saying one of them, I go back and pick a better way to express it.

Or I'll convince myself that what I'm saying is stupid and I'll trail off until the other person can't hear me lol. OR THE WORST is when I become very self-conscious of my voice, so conscious of how it sounds that I'll forget what I'm saying. And my mind blanks. I have this a lot and it's the main reason I don't like talking.

It's weird how anxiety affects how we speak. Are our anxiety and speech centers located in the same area of the brain?

It sounds like waghfhhthrhhhsdfzzjhtheerr when I say it

Or sometimes I try to say it as literally as possible and it sounds like a hard "wah-TURRRRRRR" and sounds retarded.

I'd probably die in the desert.

"You want what now?"

You should see the look on people's faces when I ask for water.

yes I do. When I'm nervous which is most of the time, I'm not a good talker. When I'm in a good mood, I like the way I talk. Weird....

I can relate. I speak clear and in my mind I assume they understood what I just said but I often have to repeat myself.

Yeah sometimes I have a habit of speaking too softly and having to repeat myself. Very annoying.

There are times where I usually have to repeat myself more than once. This is usually when I'm speaking to an older adult (like my mom who i swear is losing her hearing) or people with loud voices in general (because they think their volume is the norm). It is annoying when it happens.

Didn't quite get that. What'd you say?

No, sorry, it is annoying. After third strike, feels like they're purposefully doing it to annoy.

See, I can't get annoyed when that happens because I do it myself. I think my hearing is fine, but every once and a while I am trying to think and listen at the same time, and the listening usually loses. ::(:
