Lost Girl I know what you mean about racial confusion. I am mixed race as well. People have never told me that I look foreign other than me having a slight accent sometimes but I look at my face and I see so many mixtures I don't even know what ethnicity I'm supposed to be sometimes. When I do mention what my other half is all I get is slightly mean looks or disbelief because I don't really look it. Asian eyes are amazing so be proud.

As for the topic..I HATE my nose. It takes so much of my face ..gah!! gross really. I've given this a lot of thought and discussed it with my mother. As soon as I have the money I'm having it done. For my own peace of mind.

okay so I realized that 6 thou is out of the question

does anyone know of any places where you can get it done for 2 thou or less?

Have you gotten checked for a deviated septum? I recently did, and because the septum was significantly deviated enough, I now get a septoplasty and rhinoplasty free of cost. huzzah

So. I went to my doctor and asked to be referred to an ear/nose/throat specialist to check if I had a deviated septum. She complied and I got an appointment with such a specialist 4 hours away (because there's no specialists here). I went to that appointment and the doctor stuck this camera thing up my nose and concluded that my nose was significantly deviated.

I should also mention that I did have to suggest that I have a some breathing problems to go with the deviated septum. Which I doooooooo, but it's quite manageable. He didn't really ask me about it though, he just assumed that I must have pretty bad breathing problems because of how weird my septum is. So I don't see that as stretching the truth too much. My family doctor who referred me also mentioned to the specialist that I have some cosmetic issues with it too, so I went over that with the specialist. He said that certain cosmetic things (like a small bump on my nose and the general angle of it) could be tweaked while they would already be doing the septoplasty. He just had to send a letter off to a medical board to see if the cost could be covered. And a couple weeks ago, the surgery office called me back saying that it was approved! Now I just have to go back for one more consultation before setting a surgery date.

hmm...I could have sworn I voted on this poll before. I've considered getting my nose changed and will do it once I have the money. A few years ago, I had a consultation with a reputable cosmetic surgeon. They offer the option of monthly payments so I jumped at the chance. However, once I got into her office and told her what I wanted, she told me that I don't need it which kind of irritated me. I don't think I need it either, I want it because I know it will look better. A more well-defined nose which is slightly smaller will be more in harmony with the rest of my features. I don't want to get full-blown rhinoplasty. I am interested in finesse rhinoplasty where the results are not so dramatic but still make a significant difference. I want a more defined tip and less width to my nose.

I think it's good that some surgeons take such a responsible attitude though. I have to wonder about the morals of those cosmetic surgeons who seem willing to perform whatever mutilations their patients request, no matter how extreme. I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to have the surgery you want, but I think a responsible surgeon should first want to know a bit more about why you want the surgery, if only to rule out a condition such as BDD which might be at the root of it.

Fair enough. I don't have BDD, though and if this may have been the surgeon's suspicion, she did not have it confirmed by my therapist before she sent me off on my way. I don't think it's right for a surgeon to simply write off my wishes because she thinks that I don't need rhinoplasty. I never claimed that I needed it. I simply do not like the tip of my nose and that's all there is to it. Not liking something about myself doesn't mean I have BDD or any such problem. I decided I'll go to a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in ethnic cosmetic surgery as they will most likely understand the results I'm trying to achieve.

I know this dude that got a nose job it cost like five grand so I think its worth it to somepeople with the nose being shattered into a thousand pieces then puttied together.

My nose is weird from certain angles but I like it. I wouldn't want a perfect nose; they lack character. :(
