I look with amazing eyes on tv when I see people on tv talk, on talkshows , politics people, journalists etc.
I wonder if I was on a spot like that , I would be so terrified to say something bad or wron !
Those people are not scared of anything in social aspect..
I wonder is that the norm ?
Or are those people just highly cofident ? and the normal people on the street doens't reflect it

I just think they have had a lot of practice giving a speech, they do this so often, eventually their confident raises up as more often they go in that situation. I have often seen like when a newbie in tv reports or weather forecast they aren't always with 100% confident, but as the time passes on they get used to it. :)

Yeah, I've seen that, too. Once you get used to the feeling of the cameras on you, you would start to relax and get into your groove.

You do need some prerequisite confidence, but you will always gain some as time passes, as jonas has pointed out.

The presenters often have an entire team to do the resarch, so I don't think they worry about saying the wrong thing. A lot of what they say is scripted, even if it seems it's not, they have at least prepared the points.

Yea, I agree with the others; a little confidence to start with, and then you just get used to it (learn on the job).

Some TV people are quite reserved in real life. They are just good at putting on an act. SO ye, I guess with practice, you could do it too!

Yeah, that teleprompter does half the work for them, so as long as they know how to read and be a little bit personable, there's no real danger. Also as long as the teleprompter doesn't malfunction. ::p:

It's funny you say that. A guy I know has a friend who works as a reporter on the local news, and apparently this guy is a humongous drinker and loves going out in town and nightclubbing. However, on TV, he's as professional as can be. Two very different sides of the same person. :)

Haha! that's so funny :)

I can't imagine any news people at a nighclub! LOL I always imagine them to be reading or at a game of tennis over the weekend.

Yes, of course. We see their professional side on TV and we assume that's how their like off camera. But no, they're like everyone else, partying and drinking. :)

Talkshow hosts and journalists and the like, usually go to school and train to be on camera.
It's partially their personality-- and partially training that makes them able to be so live and bubbly on television. It's not magic.

Also, they read from cue cards and teleprompters; like an actor reading from a script.

They are people, too-- just on television; they are a more polished person than they probably are in real life.
Everyone trips once in awhile, everyone picks their nose-- people just prefer not to see that happen on the news; so it's part of the 'character' to be a specific way on tv.

That's absolutely not the norm. Most people I see on television, especially talkshows, politicians, etc. have all been trained to keep up the appearance of being oh so confident and lively. I'm sure some of them have moments of misery too, and love their quiet time, but you won't see it on camera. It's their job after all.

I am a good public speaker and in everyday life I'm socially awkward :) For me, social situations and public speaking are two different things. The second one I treat as an assignment, a job, it's like a different part of me.
