"You look like [Tim Curry] from Rocky Horror Picture Show" Said by one of my teachers.

"Are you on drugs?" said by some girls at school 'cause I have dark circles.

"The ugliest person I've ever seen" Said by one of the popular guys at school.

"He'd be normal looking if it weren't for his eyes" said by a group of 3 - 4 people talking about me.

And a few more, but who's counting? Lol.

Cheers,

-Aidan.

That's basically my situation. But with my uncle and, on rarer occasions, my Nana saying comments about my appearance. Whether they mean well or not, it still effects you. And then you get the others saying how handsome and all that like you said. People with low self-esteem tend to go for the 'glass half empty' approach to the comments we get.

Good luck mate, just keep telling yourself it only matters what you think about yourself.

When I started at uni I tried socialising with other people from my class. After some months one girl took me aside and said "We feel that it would be better if you found some other friends" (allegedly on behalf of the group which I found out much later was BS, it was basically on behalf of her and one other prick).

So many to choose from...

14 years old from a girl at school - "I dont like you" the only thing she ever said to me.

but the one that really got me, was about 3 years ago when my girlfriend broke up with me. I was upset that she was breaking up with me and I asked her "are you not attracted to me anymore? Do you think I am ugly?" and she said.... "No Dave, your not ugly... your just awkward looking...."

and as soon as she said that, I realized, that being socially awkward was imbued into my very existence, confirming all my insecurities, paranoia and self doubt in one devestating blow...

I have two.

First one:

A girl in middle school: "You're kinda cute, want to go out?"
Me: "Really?"
Girl: "No." (laughs)

Second one:

"You ruin everything." (I've heard this so many times, I started believing it.)

A guy I really liked told me he wouldn't date me because I wasn't attractive enough for him. He said that If I have below average looks I should only go after below average looking guys. Ever since then I've always felt unattractive.

He obviously had below average empathy combined with above average narcissism.

After doing a speech in front of my class when i was 11 my teacher criticised my speech and how i delivered it in front of the class and called it "pathetic". I walked out of class and cried in a bush for a while. Haven't been able to speak publicly since.

There was this girl who was really stunning, all the guys in the school drooled over her, and one day when I passed her she said "You know, you have a really natural beauty". It was sweet. I didn't know what to say though, and I said something stupid in front of a crowd. Awkward...But sweet.

Also when this beautiful girl I had been wanting to meet said I was cute and gave me her number. I've never been close to having a relationship (as I don't want one) so that's the only number I've ever received, and it meant a lot.....

Man... I admire your positive attitude. When I saw this thread, all I could think of were the comments that hurt me. I didn't even consider any of the comments that were kind, or inspiring.
I wish I could be more like you. Optimism is so endearing. It's so nice to hear that there are nice people out there who will work to build you up, instead of push you down. =]

I get a lot of comments. One employer who was training me at the told me flat out "you're too shy" while we were in a vehicle. After that comment it was awkward silence.
