Inherited ?

Is this something that runs in the family?

Realizing now what social phobia/anixety is, I think not only do I have it, but my mom, grandma and aunt. We all hang out and do stuff together and always have but we don't really have friends, we don't go to events or anything and if we do, we talk to each other. I was just curious

My mum said that she had it when she was about my age, which I find odd as she could chat for hours to a random person in a checkout line. (And has done on many occasions. Hopefully I get over it too...)

I think my SA is 50% inherited and 50% environmental. Many of my family members, especially on my dad's side, are very suspicious of people and don't socialize much outside of the family. On my dad's side, I have 5 uncles who work in auto repair and at least 3 cousins working in accounting, so it seems like they choose careers that avoid customer interaction.

I never knew her but after she died I found out my mothers mother had a mental health disease. i'm not sure on the exact details but I heard by the end of her life the disease had reached quite a progressive state.

my mother doesn't have many friends ,both her and my father are kind of loners with maybe one good friend and about one or two people they get along with and might hear from or mention every few years. they both don't go out much either.

My mother and my paternal grandmother wouldn't admit to it... But, both seem to be/have been affected by it.

My mother. She might not have SA per se but I find she does have some kind of social interaction problems.

My wife's mother, and her grandmother have all been extremely skittish and scared in any social situation.

My mothers issues are also within me, thyroid issues, ect, which have affected behaviour. In short, i most definately think our issues are at least partly inherited.

yes, anxiety runs in my family but i don't think it reared as "social" so much for my parents.

My mum has agoraphobia, an addictive personality, and a negative outlook to things, so I may have picked up some traits from her. It was more an environmental thing, also regarding my parents, but more with school.

im the exact opposite of everyone in my family and relatives. the way they treat me, its like they dont even believe i have s.a., like its an act. So for me i think it developed from surrounding environment.

Depression and addictive personality (alcoholism) run on my dad's side of the family, so I think part of it is inheirited for me.

Actually this is one thing that describes my mom also. She has always seen the negative side of any situation before anything else. But it confuses me because she can be very sociable with complete strangers and everybody says she's so sweet. Of course I know two different sides of her personality. So maybe I picked up her bad qualities and not the good ones?

Yeah, people say my mum is really sweet, too, because she can be sociable. Maybe our mothers should get together!
