I don't care about anything but getting a job.

It's sad that I learned more about hydroponics in high school horticulture than I did in college horticulture.. I did not learn much about it, but feel I can make it work.. I know I can buy the stuff pre-made, but that cost more capital than I have, so I will need to fabricate it.. No idea how.. ::(: I have given up on trying to find a minimum wage job that won't even contact me for an interview and if I got it would not work out long because of my Selective Mutism.. ::(: I am tired of jobs that treat you like a slave for a ton of hours at minimal pay, with no benefits. It cannot be blamed on politics because it matters not who is in office, the little guy gets screwed either way. For now I am just going to do as I normally do, obsessively clean things and learn ASL on the internet until I get a letter from my school telling me if I am good to go in August.. If not, I have no plan other than the hydroponics bay and if that fails.. I don't know what I will do.. ::(:

I'm starting to realize that honesty is a bad trait when job hunting. :)

Yeah, I know whenever I apply and they require you take the online assessment about "What you would do in this situation" or "how you describe yourself" all have right answers, even if they say they don't. Answering honestly to your level of sociability or self-esteem - not going to get you a call. In my experience at least.

I hate online applications because they are always so long and when I don't get contacted for the job, I get very irritated that I waste 1-2 hours working on something for nothing.. I prefer paper applications for one reason only as I hte the in person aspect of trying to ask for one via writing it on a piece of paper.. What I like about paper applications is the fact it costs the business $x to produce, hence they are much smaller.. Online you take the costs to time filling it out, wear on your computer and using your electricity..

When I worked in a factory, people thought I was an A-hole because I never said anything to anyone.. Safe to say I hated that job and found ways to shirk my duties and get paid a lot per week for using the bathroom.. Always bring some music and or reading materials.. I lost the job because of an unknown medical reason they kept sending me home for.. Apparently they frown upon workers vomiting on the line constantly..

It's fair to say I exaggerated on my interview answers. The job i'm doing now is merely a stepping stone. But in order to get the job in the first place, well I, erm, lied.
So do you enjoy working with others? Absolutely. I have a very *cough* outgoing personality. I work very well in a *cough* team and I think I will make a *Uncontrollable coughing* valuable contribution to your company.

Hahahaha. Yes, I need to learn this.

Lol, I've been doing the same thing. The sh*t I say about myself is so bogus it's sickening. :D

You have to sell yourself.

"so you're 25 and this is your first job?"

"Well, my job so far has been taking care of my family. 25 years experience" :D

I'm desperate for a job!!!!

^ Clever. :D I wish I could count taking classes as my experience for design or photo jobs.

I've been throwing my resume around everywhere. I've had a whopping two interviews in the past year. Managed to land the second job but it was horrible so I told them I was going to keep looking and walked away. Now I almost regret doing that.

It's just really tough out there. The system is broken. Now instead of working with our own homegrown professionals and paying them decent salaries, our companies just outsource the position for 75% less.

Takes some luck and some connections. My sister-in-law's brother got his foot in the door somewhere and he's making 3x what I am expecting salary-wise. He's not doing anything that I can't do, I just can't find that break.

It's really demoralizing and depressing.

I've been trying to get into entry-level positions that I've already done before, a decade ago now. No responses. It's like I've been blacklisted by someone or managed to make myself unemployable.

I have this constant throbbing in my head. Total hopelessness. It's embarrassing to have to depend on my parents still. They should be able to relax and not worry about me at their age.

I think the motivation to get a job is great but I hope you dont base your happiness on whether or not you have a job....that would be sad in my opinion.

Yeah, I think I was a little too honest on my last one. No surprises that I've heard nothing back. It's unfortunate that you have to lie but if you tell them what they want to hear, there's a better chance for you.

I would but I hurl like there's no tomorrow so I don't fit the requirements.

Earlier today I was complaining to my mother about waiting for employers to contact me, and how I have to wait at least a week.

Then later on, I got a missed call and a voicemail from an internship I applied for either yesterday or the day before. They want to set up an appointment for me to come in for an interview, I think.

Oh, the irony.

Whooooah!!!

Good to find this thread.

I was about to ask if anyone else lived in apartment. I've been here by myself since 2001

Neighbours don't exist. If I ever bump into anyone on the stairwells, or in the car park, that's less than one time in a decade.

I have been out to work quite a bit, but I get months between work, and there's nobody to speak to, living alone.

An american visiting our office, years ago, said he was surprised, being driven around the suburbs, there were terraced houses where people share walls. He said at home, they all have detached houses, with plenty of land for everyone.

Anyways, when he said that, I was living in houses of 6 or 8 of us, with my girlfriend. Best life. We did move somewhere with just the two of us. But after a few years I wanted to invest in property, when £$€ was flowing well.

Shortly, she decided to leave because the apartment was too small and she thought the place was just for me. I really had marriage on my mind, after all those years.

People in the office could tell the difference in me every day, being alone, but I didn't know it was showing - I was trying to act good. It was the end of my career, in 2002.

Since, I've been clutching at straws. My occupation / hobby is interviewing... or.. dating. I never go out. I jobsearch all day.

For a moment seriously considered it except for: I haven't got a passport, And getting a workspermit for the US is going to take an entire season.

But thanks for the offer anyway, it would have made a lovely holiday.

I need a DeLorean car, or maybe use a Smart Roadster,
put a flux capacitor in the stereo slot, using an iPhone to set the year to 1980, hoping I'd be accepted as an English, Maths, science & Latin teacher in my school on a reasonable salary, teaching me and my friends

From my experience, it seems for 99.99% of people got their "proper" job because of someone they know. Its way less for "dodgy" jobs, as entry level jobs like retail and fast food seem to prioritise younger people (they cost less I guess) rather than someone in their 20's.

Its not what you know but WHO you know.

I work in a specialised industry, and most employees did not have formal training/qualification - those skills/qualifications were attained after landing the job.
Some are even useless, putting more load on the ones that are capable of performing their tasks.

Too many times I have heard Human Resources departments discuss how silly it is to place an advertisement for a position they have already per-decided who will fill it because of legal "red tape".
Basically, if a position needs filling, they advertise, assess the applicants and choose the best suited. However in reality, internal people favor their friends and pull the strings, only advertising because its "company policy". Its cruel to advertise for positions that no one is able to get, but it happens all the f#$$ing time.

This seems to be the case for all business in the area in which I live, I don't know if it is different in other parts of the country/world. It seems that the system favors social connections more than actual skill.
