How to stay optimistic?

What do you do when your hope is fading and you have pretty much nothing to show for everything you've tried?

I try to find something to look forward to and focus solely on that and forget about everything else. It doesn't work all the time but I try to do it anyways.

Although, I do get pissed off when someone tries to bring my attention to the very subject I don't want to pay attention to.

When you seem like you're just down and out, and everything is hopeless it can be pretty hard to be optimistic. I think it's good that you want to be though. I think I am kind of coming to accept the fact that my life is probably going to be pretty much fυcked for the most part. The thing is you never really know, and that can help. Even the tiniest bit of hope can keep you going, and I think it's a really important thing to have, even if it may seem totally delusional.

One thing I also do, which seems kind of silly, but it works I guess. I don't have much to look forward to, like nothing. I'll get excited about the stupidest things ever. I'll get really excited if magazine have that squishy clear glue stuff, or if I don't have to look for the remote or something. Stupid things like that. When there isn't much to look forward to, getting excitement from something stupid can make me more optimist sometimes. That way if something better happens I will be like freaking out in happy deliciousness waves of happiness. Whatever that means. Hmm Sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows!!!! yay!!! umm boo. Hope I wasn't too much of a weirdo.

oh yes, and be sure to cook yourself a delicious meal or watch a funny show. Just because your mind is doing badly, it does not mean everything has to :)

Agreed. Treat yourself, say '**** it' to everything else you've done, take a break for a few days, and then you just have to start over again, alas!

Thanks guys. Don't know what I'd do without you. You weren't being weird Psychedelicious, I look forward to little things too. It's probably what's keeping me going.

I need to learn to cook something.

good question.

im sure like most ppl on this board, my social skills suck. Its uncomfortable for me to be around people, so a lot of the time i am alone (excluding school and work). Bc of this ive found plenty of things to look forward to- no matter how stupid they are. I love ufc so whenver an event is coming up or is on i get excited. digital cable = endless movies. Food. Music. PS2. Hell, even a good book. Theres plenty of things out there.
