How to avoid wasting time in front of a computer

yeah I got it from Amazon a few weeks ago when it was $29.99 shipped. I think I stopped playing because I got stuck in the forest at the beginning of the game and got frustrated with all the battles I kept getting into with disgusting huge wasps. That, and I spent $600 on a cockpit/wheel setup for GT5 and feel like that should be the only game I play for a long time lol.

Hello I was wondering what are some of the best way to avoid wasting time in front of a computer, mostly online. Normally I wouldn't care but i started to have pain in my right hand from typing and using a mouse too much. Now i switched hands even though it wasn't comfortable I still could spend time online. But now the same problem is appearing on the other hand. I spend all my days in front of a computer, I work in front of a computer and my program is computer related so all my classes are in front of one.

As you can see a computer is pretty much all my life. Every other interest i had before faded away since all i want to do is to be in front of a computer. One thing I hate the most is that even if i'm bored I still waste my time in front of it instead of finding something else to do.

I'm already not an out going person of nature but in winter I simply don't want to leave my house.

I'm sure many can relate and I recommend those who do to do your best to find something else to do instead or to try to greatly reduce your time in front of one.

I used to spend a lot of time in front of computer, i really wanted to do something about it, so i tried to pick up a few hobbies, ended up with playing guitar, pretty cool, it helped me a lot...
so i suggest find a hobby, maybe try to pickup instrument aswell..

I'm not reading the whole thread... so sorry if this has been said. If you know how, you can make some of the things you do to be voice activated. Between the two hands and the voice, that should distribute the work evenly... though it's still best if you can find avenues of recreation or work that doesn't involve the computer.

I notice that I absolutely need the internet to pass the time. For some reason, the days without my computer are so unbelievably long. On the one hand it makes me feel like I'm wasting my life, but on the other hand I can't possibly imagine what I'd do with the free time. I work a bit and am following a course, and I have therapy. Occasionally I meet up with my family. But aside from those few things, I have nothing going on and I don't feel like I could fill up my time without the computer.

Yeah, I agree with the being afraid of a gym comment. I used to have a membership and I finally got sick of going there. Not only am I nervous around the people, but many people are in groups while I'm alone and then you've got all these guys who are ripped and are lifting more than I ever will. I wouldn't mind so much if i was with a friend, but I don't have friends right now. What's ridiculous anyways is every single one of my friends doesn't work out. How sad is that? Marijuana and alcohol seem to satisfy them more than a treadmill.

What sucks is i have the same exact problem as you do.....I'm SOOOO sick of sitting in front of a computer AND television all day. I don't even like reading much, but i force myself to read the paper and get outside when it's not cold and walk or jog. That still isn't nearly enough, I wish there were other things to do besides movies, video games, and internet. Boredom is an every day problem, even when I'm keeping busy I still don't feel that well.

Internet is an addiction, you know. And games are too...

In Japan, there are programs for people who are hikkikomori to get them outside the house.. I wonder if anything like that exists in the rest of the world?

I am trying to cut back on computer because I read that 5+ hours of computer causes depression and concentration/memory problems..

It helps to have someone drag you outside, even if it's a neighbours' dog or a family member... or to have some errand to do 'in town'.. maybe you can intentionally do/buy just a little something each day, just to have a 'reason' to go outside?
You don't have to like going outside, just need to go.. maybe even not-so-far, or a bit further uphill, for heart benefit.. you can expect to be miserable and just 'go'!! you will feel soo much more energetic afterwards!!

You could read? I like to get books from the library because then I'm slightly more motivated to finish the book so I can get it turned back in before it's due. Although, I moved so I don't live across the street from the library anymore :( So I've been mostly hiding under my bed on my computer so I don't have to see/talk to my roommates.

Oh, this is my homepage:
GET YOURSELF IN GEAR

It doesn't really help me spend less time on the computer, but it makes me smile because I see it every time I get onto the internet.

Haha I should set that as my homepage...

you hide under your bed? That sounds...... FUN!!!. I haven't thought about doing that since I was a kid... I don't think I'd fit under mine but.

I play an instrument to stay off the computer... but I find myself looking up lyrics or tabs which leads to a quick glimpse of Facebook and then I forget what I was doing.

Or I go outside and look for interesting insects/bugs out in the garden to observe... it also allows me to get some essential vitamin D or as I like to think of it, to sexify my tan.

And as of late I've been trying to learn new languages and improve on ones I tried I already tried to learn. But this involves reading content on the net but at least its productive.

Yeah, you can change the dorm beds so they go up pretty high, so I made the underneath of my bed into a cave. My roommate and her friends think I'm weird, but it's the only personal space I have and I need it...

Looking for bugs sounds fun! I wonder if I can still find any out here. It's pretty cold out.

This sucks. I wouldn't even be having this problem if I was able to connect with my friends in the first place. That's why I'm alone in front of a computer and tv all day. I tried for years to connect with friends and I just started to hate it. I'm really starting to think there is no solution besides being with friends. Without people, there is just this emptiness inside me. I hate it because I feel way more anxiety and still feel lonely when I'm with friends, and it's even more boring.

well i wish I wasn't that lazy, i used to go outside more when i was a kid but that's stop as soon as the internet came into my life. If i wasn't working every day i would stay all the time.

I don't connect too much with my friends but i do connect with them on some levels, try to find other stuff that you might relate to them.

I guess it's better to do something you like doing rather than doing something social and pretending to enjoy it. That's just my opinion though. I guess if you do decide to do something else make sure it's something you would enjoy. I'm sure a lot of people including non-saers can relate to this. I had a coworker (who is anything but shy) who was just telling me the other day that he would rather spend his free time watching scientific videos on youtube than go out partying ever single weekend. He said it was just him and what he enjoys doing. I guess when I'm not a work I just laze around watch random movies, play random online games, maybe window shop, go to church, go to the library, exercise, dine out, visit relative, etc. I'm fairly religious and spiritual and spend hours sometimes meditating and praying and reading the Bible. I like my alone time a lot. I just do whatever pleases me.

it sucks when you have a job like me that involves sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours... and then you come home and sit on the computer until you go to bed... and then you muck around on your smart phone while in bed until you fall asleep

its like being in front of a computer 24/7
