Hello!
I'm brazillian and I've decided to register on the forum after reading it for a while.. Hopefully it's going to be a good experience, i guess =)
A little info on me:

After several years of shyness, being quiet, suffering, I started to think that maybe this wasn't just my way of being, so I decided to look for a psychiatrist and seek help.
Well, i was diagnosed with social phobia and started to take 50mg of sertraline per day.
One of my majors concerns - facial blushing - stopped almost completely (pill's consequence), but I still not confortamble with many many things.
I'm also doing therapy once a week, i guess it's helping me too.

that's it hehe..

Welcome to SPW :) Your facial blushing stopped completely? That's amazing (I want some of that drug! ;)). I am constantly blushing, even when I talk to my family and friends. It's quite annoying actually and I often get teased for it too.

I still blush in some specific situations (public talk for instance). I used to blush when talk to family (uncle, aunt.. parents and brother no), now it doesn't happen anymore.
Have you seen a phychatrist?

No I have never seen a psychiatrist, mostly because 1) I'm only 17, not on my own yet. and 2) My parents have no idea about my SA. I'm really too afraid to tell them, thinking that they'll never understand and I won't get help anyway.

AKA Zoloft. I tried it, and it gave me side unpleasant side effects but did nothing for my depression, anxiety, or blushing. At least it works for some people.

Welcome aboard, Frihet. :)

Thanks for the welcome msgs :)

The sertraline is helping me, for sure. The only side effect is desire to sleep on afternoon, but that is nothing compared to facial blushing all the time.

Phoenixx, i was afraid of being diagnosed with SA and have to tell my family about that, too. The only people who knows it are my parents and my brother..
I won't deny it's difficult, but man, living with SA is completly worse.
Please consider telling your family about that, i guess this "temporary" cost may bring to you benefits for ever.

Well I will consider it, but I probably won't tell them anytime soon. I just have to work it out whenever I can, see if I can somehow manage the courage to tell them.
