Does anybody else have trouble saying "please"?

I do. I know it's basic manners but I just feel so uncomfortable saying it. I have no problem with "thank you" and "sorry" but "please" just feels weird.
Like today I was at the store and I had to ask for something people the counter, saying please was like pulling teeth.

No I don't. I actually feel better If I say yes please.

Me being 6ft tall and having tattoos, I think many people are surprised that I show manners. I also think it makes me a little more approachable. But the main reason I do it is because it costs nothing, makes me feel better as a person and may also make that other persons day a little better too

Interesting. Did you have a bad experience in the past that involved the word please in some way? If someone had a bad circumstance, or if one has difficulty accepting/asking help from others, they could view the word please as a form of weakness or desperation.

For me it's not so much the "please", but just asking... I kinda feel like I'm being a burden. Oh, and saying "excuse me" for people to move out my way.. mg: I guess it all comes down to a lack of self-confidence, for. Don't if it's the same for you, Sally?

I can kinda relate, Pug in terms of the whole showing manners and the intimating physical appearance. Though, for me, it's more a case of a well-built, hairy, brown fella with a beard and funny accent. :bigsmile:

I compulsively say please, thank you and sorry to excess... The result of a really shitty childhood. I always feel like im bothering people or being a burden.

Uff! Got major issues saying please. Some issues saying thank you - usually a half-hearted thanks.

No real reason other than my bright shiny object brain doesn't quite get that far with mannerisms.

I don't even know what causes it. It just fees like I'm begging or something. Also, when I was school, people used to always make snide comments about the people with good manners.

I say please and thank you because it's common sense, and people like it. I have co-workers who never/rarely say please and thank you, and it annoys me, and makes me not want to do whatever it is they're asking.

I don't think you are being unreasonable, they are paid for their work and you expect a service. It really bugs me when people say 'please' and 'thanks' to a bus driver. If one of them has a low driving standard they get the boot. Honestly, if I feel irritated and am at the checkout I have no time for these people. Bar code scanning couldn't be easier.

I am very polite to people, I can't help it. I appreciate it in others but it has become rather rare.

Im the opposite there, it bugs me when people dont say thank you to the bus drivers

That seems a bit odd to me, like thanking the postman for bringing the mail. I do often say good morning/afternoon to bus drivers, but I rarely use the bus.

I do that too if I happen to be at the mailbox when its being delivered
