Some causes can be genetic. A lot of it is from observation, and of course the way we were raised because of it. Just so happens that people raise their children to be like themselves.
My mom has really bad social anxiety and paranoia problems, and depression. I have picked up a lot through observation, and how she has raised me... Not well raised person, I raised myself emotionally. A lot of it, I recently discovered is because of her own gluten/dairy intolerance, which she admitted to having, and changes a lot when she eats how she should eat (but she doesn't....) So thank god I'm not going to turn out as badly as her because I have the same thing but am doing it right. Of course that doesn't take care of everything. I was still raised this way and I still live with her. She is still my only parent, a hard example to take.

My dad was very emotionally distant and... Wow. He actually fits the AvPD description very well. He makes friends and leaves them behind, takes up interests and leaves them behind, he fantasizes about a current obsession and then it lets him down, and he leaves it behind. This is who he is. Now this is who I am. He has also left his family behind and is starting a new one. I wonder if he'll up and leave that one too??

my Grandma has anxiety and I think depression.. not sure if SA, maybe, she was always a bit 'shy' I think.. okay, maybe, she used to not sleep if she had to say a few words in public next day or go to the doctor.. (?)

I come from 3rd generation of worriers... Dad might have some SA, Mum - I don't think so, she used to worry about us a lot though (they both still do..) I think they both might have ADD or such.. (we all do and the neighbours.. maybe it's because of the chemical factory near by, and some other environmental problems in and outside the house..)

Why is this in the pictures forum lol? :)

Oh, I have 2 sisters. 1 is very extroverted but says she can understand how I would have this problem. She is just the other extreme; cares what everybody thinks about her but she thinks very highly of herself.

Younger sister has some social problems, depression, attachment problems but not SA. She is nervous about what people think but strives to get them to like her enough so that it is not even near debilitating.

I was talking to my sister recently and she told me that my mother rang Lifeline, which is an Australian telephone counselling surface. It got me wondering whether my mother also suffered from the same thing. I've called Lifeline many times over the last few years

She was a shy person. She hated to have visitors over sometimes. She used to get all anxious about cleaning the house.

why funny? see the info post what can contribute to anxiety/social anxiety or mental health problems. or google things up.

Heavy metals and other toxic chemicals and such can contribute to or cause huge problems.. can affect both health and mental health.. Of course that is just one of the factors, together with nutrition, genetics, psychological environment (family, early years, people around you, life experience etc), what you do in life, how you think...

My uncle has anxiety.
My cousin has anxiety and depression.

I don't have 1 family member with these problems. Only my mother was the same as me when she was young, she said to me. Now she's always at home too, but she doesn't seem to be afraid of those situations. At least, she doesn't tell me or can hide it very well.

I suspect one of my parents had anxiety problems that they medicated with alcohol. One sibling has admitted to having SP.

i think my whole family has , in a different way , psychological issues, but i'm the most affected one, i think .

Asperger's syndrome runs in the family on my father's side, bipolar disorder runs in the family on my mother's side (thank God I didn't inherit the latter). Needless to say that both anxiety and depression runs in the family because of this.
