Do you laugh at your self?

I have suffered from social phobia and agoraphobia for as long as i can remember, my mum said it started when i was 18 months old.
I have been on a few forums for people with these phobias and i seem to be the only one that's never been 'normal' at some point in my life so i am now wondering if i have APD.
Also i haven't noticed any threads on any of the forums i have been on that uses humor to help deal with the phobias or anxiety.
I am always taking the micky out of my self and what i like to call my 'loony-ness' :D
My best friend also suffers with anxiety and we are always calling each other names, her fav for me is 'window licker' :D i just tell her to go play with her crayons and at least i am allowed to play with scissors:D
I think it helps to use humor to sometimes lighten the depressed moods you can find your self getting in to.
Does anyone else use humor?

I do it. It just makes things easier. I think people dont realise that if you have social phobia or agoraphobia you can ALSO have a sense of humour... :)

lol yeah mate. I'm always cracking jokes at my expense.

I also just laugh a lot, in general, too. I sometimes just have a hard time when it comes to taking things seriously cause I'm always laughing at stupid things.

I'm not sure I laugh at myself very often but i do make a lot of jokes with my friends.

I don't know what I would do without humor... I'm always laughing at myself about something. Better laughing than crying.

I also don't think I have ever been "normal," and am pretty sure I'm avoidant rather than just having SA. I was shy as a small child, but it really got bad once I hit adolescence/puberty.

Yes, all the time. I don't think I could survive if I didn't make jokes about my situation with my family. We're all a little crazy, so we are constantly making jokes about each other...It just lightens the mood a lot, and makes things easier to deal with.

When I come home from work, or shopping or something, I always tell my mom or brother about all the embarrassing things that happened or all the weird things I did to avoid having to talk with people. It helps me to not dwell on it too much or take it too seriously.

I'm unemployed, unattached, uneducated (no college degree), quiet, and folicly challenged. I avoid most social situations if they're at all avoidable, usually have either a classical or heavy metal song in my head, and often daydream about training an eagle to eat feral cats only for the irony of having a bird that eats cats.

Where exactly do you think I'd be if I couldn't laugh at myself?

No cat eating bird allowed in these parts

But yes, I often make fun of my own situation and mock myself from past times that I've been kinda psycho, lol. All in good fun!

Haha, of course. My friends and I all call each other crazy...because we are. Most of us have been depressed at some point, are extremely anxious, or have trouble with parents.

People make fun of me sometimes (not in a mean way) because I laugh at literally everything. It's a good way to escape.
